Re: MLB Draft
So I live in Kansas City and have become a big Royals fan and I think them passing on Rocker and picking a kid from a low level Connecticut high school over him is the most unbelievable thing I could think of…of course better for Kumar because the Royals are going to lose 100 games for each of the last three full seasons.

Re: MLB Draft
Just because he had one lightning in a bottle college season and college kids couldn't hit him for one season, the pro scouts must have seen something that gave them pause about pro players hitting him. And the guy is like 25 years old already? Something like that?

Re: MLB Draft
I read an interesting article on 2021 signing bonuses and NIL that could have an impact, especially on the draft-eligible sophomores. Bonuses are prorated, and they can only receive a maximum of $100,000 this year.
"In March 2020, MLB and the union agreed on a system for the 2020 and 2021 drafts in which teams stagger payments on signing bonuses. The maximum upfront signing-bonus payment is $100,000. Up to 50% of the remaining bonus is due July 1, 2022, and the rest July 1, 2023.
By then, players from the 2022 draft will have received their full signing bonuses. Whether that incentive is strong enough to sway players to return to college will be clear by Aug. 1, the signing deadline for 2021 draftees."

For someone like CJ Rodriguez, if you could improve your stock enough to get more money next year, there is very little incentive to sign this year. They also mentioned some players being able to earn as much as $1 Million with NIL, but I haven't seen anything close to those numbers yet.

Re: MLB Draft
Looks like Lawlar is the only recruit of our that went 1st round unless I'm missing somebody. He was top 10 so he'll be gone.
Not sure where the rest are expected to go. I'd like to think the NIL will help us out a bit more but realistically I wonder how much money a baseball player at Vandy is really going to attract.

Baez just went in the second round at # 52. Slot value $1.4 million.Starkiller wrote: ↑Sun Jul 11, 2021 10:00 pm Baez didn’t get drafted on day 1. It would be nice to get him on campus.
Gonna be tough.

Re: MLB Draft
Yep. But hopefully he could be convinced that in 2 years he could get at least double that. Or maybe the Cardinals have problems with having to go over slot value on other picks and don’t have enough.commadore wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 12:53 pmBaez just went in the second round at # 52. Either way, I’m not counting on him getting to campus, but we'll see…

Re: MLB Draft
Keagan was supposed to be our 3rd highest rated player. I am guessing the swing and miss factor and the fact he couldn't hit his weight in the tourney hurt his draft status.
Re: MLB Draft
I heard on the MLB draft broadcast that Rocker has already signed for $6 Million, which is above his slot of $4.74 Million. Congrats to Kumar.
