Might want to take down OmaHogs from behind home plate. Don't test the baseball gods like that.

Yesterday Arkansas was the betting favorite to win in Omaha, with Vanderbilt being second. That will have to be recalculated.

Started a guy who hasn't started all season. Corbin would never have done that. I don't hate Arkansas but them being out does, maybe, improve our chances of taking it all.

Kopps

How many pitches did he throw over the past two weekends? Add on the SEC tourney, and it might be over 400.

Texas and Arizona have impressed me. Notre Dame too, to a lesser extent. The only weak link at Omaha IMO will be the DBU/UVA winner.

It's hard to predict the eventual outcome. As we all know, our #1 and #2 starting pitchers are outstanding. But there is a huge dropoff after that in the starting rotation. The thought of some of the teams at Omaha teeing off against our starters not named Rocker or Leiter is truly terrifying.

I think this is good overall for us. Ark is tough and knows how to play us. That said, I'm watching Arizona totally dismantle Ole Miss right now (13-1 in the 7th).

Maybe SEC is not as strong as we thought it is?

As of Monday on 6/14, there is only 2 SEC teams in the mix for Omaha and Miss St is in a must win today vs ND to join us.

Kopps pitching totals:

6/13 118
6/12 21
6/7 90
6/5 71
6/4 24
Twelve day total: 325
Plus
5/30 39
5/27 30

That is coaching malfeasance if you ask me.

If you're criticizing the Arkie coach because of the pitcher's pitch count (overworking him) I agree. But if you're criticizing the coach from a strategic standpoint (i.e., starting a non-starter) I'd just say that the guy pitched pretty darn well -- 3 runs in 8 plus innings.

But it changed the entire dynamic. No "panic" for NC State worrying that they had to score before Kopps came in.

Kopps is a 24 year old RS-Sr who has already had TJ surgery, and throws a low-90's fastball. Even though he is the SEC Pitcher of the Year and a very good college pitcher, he is not even projected in the top 200 draft picks for 2021.

Watch him pitch and see all the pitches that college batters will chase out of the zone, mainly a cutter that he throws over half the time. Without a good fastball, this will not work in the pros, so his long-term professional prospects are not very good.

Would compare him the Michael Roth of South Carolina, who led USC to 2 CWS championships. Roth was drafted 297th in 2012.

As far as pitching so many innings, why not if it gets him to the CWS and maybe a championship ring. He is not risking much of a signing bonus, maybe $10k, and his body is mature enough to handle it. I don't think Austin Wood regrets his pitching 13 innings in a regional game against BC.
