2021 issues

Post by LanceGish »

Here our "issues" in my humble opinion.
-Not enough power. Gonzalez should have 15+ HRs this year. Average has been fine but I would trade .275 with 15 HRs. He is generally the biggest guy in the park but his hitting is mostly punching balls into RF.
-Ethan Smith going down cost us a great and versatile relief pitcher. There is not enough runway now to get him reps unfortunately. I hope he returns.
-Fisher still not being able to know where the bal is going. IF he is dialed in he is close to unhittable but it is like watching someone throw a wiffle ball.
-Cooper Davis taking a ball off the face cost us a .325 hitter. Crushing blow for a long time starter.
-Kolwyck injuring his hand seems to have cost him his power. I think if un injured he would have hit 10+ HRs
-Rockers command and ability to "disappear." Who knows? I think it was Kyle Peterson who commented a month ago that Kumar seems to get "bored" at times......His 2nd inning meltdown is worrisome.

Corbs has the ability to push reset but performance wise we are not peaking now.....we will see what Regionals holds. Right now we are not a top 5 team. Top 10 yes....... @AD SV#

In early May we had a blah-zay 7-2 loss vs Louisville and a week later a really poor performance (a 3-2 "win") vs North Alabama who is in process of moving up from D-2 ball. (and struggling mightily with it)

If this team was locked in, it would have at least competed vs U of L and trounced UNA.

In the past month we are 8-8...blew the East division #1 seed, and then Rocker/Leiter both lose back to back in the SEC tourney. Not exactly the finish we need and we are not playing our best baseball heading into post season. We peaked too early.

Maybe the first peak was just a foothill.

On the other hand we have top talent (1? 5? 10?)..1-2 ranked pitchers.
And the most capable coach in the nation. With 2 national championships to his credit ( should have been 3).

Let’s play the games and see.
