P Christian Little to enroll early,.

Post by katmai »

The news—first reported by STLtoday.com—removes the No. 3 ranked player from the high school class, and increases the talent of an already loaded Commodore pitching staff.

Why don't we load up on top pitchers? Appears to be a great addition. However, it seems he throws only in the low 90s. Isn't the criteria for great pitchers that they throw at close to 100 or more? Just asking.

Maddox threw in the 88-90 range and Glavine threw 90-92. Both did pretty well, as in Hall of Fame well. I realize that was 20 years ago, but the same holds: Location, location, location. If you can put your pitch where you want it and mix pitches, the change in speeds and the location will get you a LONG way.

Two points: He's only 17 and yet to be in a college strength and conditioning program so you would expect his fast ball to gain some velocity. And according to a writer for MLB.com who prior to this announcement had Little as the number five prospect in the 2021 draft, his fastball already reaches 94 mph. So I doubt that's going to be an issue with this kid. Seems like a total stud.

The scouting reports I've read are high on his overall command to go along with 3 plus pitches, which means he could be a big contributor as a freshman. He's only 17, so there's some projection left in that body.
