I was hoping that if they didn't know Mason's name they might not get his signature on a contract.

I've been surprised at how many players are signing below slot value since MLB teams only have 5-6 draft choices and should not want to take a chance on one of those guys walking away.

Hickman signed for $340k, just a shade under his $343.40k slot value, but Cleveland got its 1st round choice (no. 23 overall) for an even $2 million, far below the slot value of $2.93 million.

Some others of note:

RD PICK .. PLAYER ............... SLOT ..... BONUS
01 008 ... Robert Hassell III .. $5.18m .... $4.30m
01 014 ... Justin Foscue ....... $4.04m .... $3.25m
02 058 ... Jeff Criswell ....... $1.21m .... $1.00m
03 083 ... Adisyn Coffey* ...... $733.1k ... $50k
03 091 ... Anthony Walters^ .... $647.3k ... $20k
04 112 ... Kade Mechels@ ....... $517.4k ... $10k

*Junior College player, probably out of eligibility there but could field offers from big-time D1 programs.
^Junior at San Diego State, had two more years of eligibility.
@Junior at Grand Canyon University; undrafted free agents were paid more than he got. Must have wanted to get out of there before the Bryce Drew era in GCU Basketball.
