I wonder what the logic is in only having two games a day. They could add an extra game at 10 am and a game in between the two at 4:30 or so and have 4 games a day and not drag it out so much.
The TSSAA “Spring Fling” state baseball (and softball) championships follow the same format as the College World Series. You have eight teams split up into two four-team brackets. It’s double elimination. The teams play until there’s two teams left, the winners of each bracket. That is the championship.
But the Spring Fling games go on all day long from Wednesday through Saturday of the same week. They finish one game, they start another one. Teams which lose and get sent to the losers bracket will have to play two games in one day. Teams which have strong pitching depth have an advantage.
The CWS could use this same format and not drag it out so much.
Why are there only two games a day?

Television and providing a buffer in case of rain. The following morning is usually when games are made up or continued (as we know from prior experience). I realize the SEC plays as many as four games a day and battles through rain delays, so it can be done.

Spacing it out makes it a better tournament. Maybe not for fans who stay a whole week, but better for the players and fans who want to watch on TV. With spacing, managers can do a much better job of setting their pitching, which ultimately protects the kids from throwing too much unless your manager is just an idiot.
