The NET rankings are not meaningless at this time of year, but they’re bound to change as teams enter conference play and schedules get tougher. While the quality of opponent is part of the NET formula, it apparently can take awhile for that to smooth out. In the meantime, you can fatten up on inferior teams like LSU has done. They've played weak teams, but they've pounded them like they're supposed to do. I suppose that matters. The Tigers are good, but I don’t think anyone expects them to finish second in the nation in NET rankings.

NET replaced RPI last year as a system to help the NCAA rank teams and assist with tournament seeding. It’s not the only factor, but it’s important. I won’t even try to get into how it works. We tried it last year and found it near impossible to grasp in total. Here is that discussion if you just feel like beating your head against a wall.

I don’t care about S-O-S if I see the Net Ranking because the former is a factor in the latter.

Doesn’t matter if S-O-S is #1 if we don’t win any games.
