Belmont

Post by MikeADore »

Game is on ESPN+ at 6:30 against Chattanooga.

Hopefully, they'll have an easy time of it because the next five games are a grind: Home against Louisville, at MTSU, at Iowa, at Villanova and at Georgia Tech. After a game at Lipscomb, they then hit the road to Georgia. Not many teams playing a schedule like that this season.

Good luck Kendal Cheesman!

Belmont not playing well. Down 29-25 at the half. Kendal was first sub off the bench in the post and played most of the second quarter. Had four points (including a 3-pointer), two blocks, a rebound and a steal. Played really well.

Chattanooga looks quite a bit better. A new coach and several transfers seems to have improved the program substantially.

Belmont overcame a 14-point, fourth-quarter deficit and took its first lead of the game with 24 second left. Held on to win 56-54 as UTC missed a contested layup at the buzzer. Kendal only played a couple minutes in the second half.

Belmont didn't look interested until the fourth quarter, which is unusual for them. Maybe looking past UTC to Sunday's game against Louisville.

If you're looking for another game to watch today, Louisville at Belmont starts are 4 CST on ESPN+. Will be interesting to see if the Bruins can hang with a national power at home.

Yep. Actually had a one-point lead with a minute to go and wound up losing by five. If they ever figure out how to close out games like this one and the tourney game at UT last year, they'll be tough to handle.

Belmont at MTSU tonight at 6 CST if you're looking for a good game to watch. It's on ESPN+.

Also at 6, Iowa State and Northern Iowa, who we play in Cancun, will face each other. UNI was good last year and seem to be pretty good so far this year. Will be interesting to see if they can play with the powerhouse Iowa State squad.

Scroll down to Women's NCAA Basketball and find the link for your game:

MTSU over Belmont by close to 20. Kendal Cheesman had 14 for Belmont in the second half on four three pointers and a driving layup when Middle finally came out to guard her. Also had a few rebounds.

And, wouldn't you know it, Northern Iowa took Iowa State down to the wire, missing a three pointer at the end to lose 88-85. Sounds like they'll be a problem in Cancun.

The Bruins (2-0) have a big one tonight at Drake (1-1), which will be shown on ESPN3, the ESPN digital platform. Chances are, if you have the ESPN app on either a computer or TV, you have access to ESPN3. Game time is 6:00 CST.

Belmont, which is my second-favorite basketball team, is making its first tour through the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake should be a tough test. In addition to Belmont, three other MVC teams are unbeaten in conference play: Southern Illinois, Murray State and Northern Iowa (that last-second 3-pointer in Cancun still sticks in my craw).

Former Commodore Kendal Cheesman is averaging right at six minutes and three points per game for Belmont.

If that game doesn't interest you, maybe Columbia at Princeton will do it. Best rivalry in the Ivy League. Princeton has had the upper hand for several years, but with the graduation of Abbey Myers, the gap seems to have closed. Columbia has been good since we beat them early in the season, and they're gunning for the Tigers. You can bet these two teams will get after it tonight. The game is on ESPNU at 6:00 CST.
