ESPN Releases Its WBB Schedule

Post by MikeADore »

I've always loved basketball, and, over the years, my interest has migrated more and more to the women's game. I never miss a Vandy men's game on TV, but overall, I enjoy the style of the women's game more as the men's game morphs more into NBA lite.

So, I'm interested in ESPN's schedule of women's games on its various networks. Here 'tis in case anyone else is interested.

The schedule does not include SEC+ games where many Vandy games will be played, including all home games that aren't on a network.

You also failed to list the games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPU and ESPNNews.

I'm confused. Vandy doesn't have any games on those particular networks. The link above does include those networks as part of ESPN's full schedule of women's games for all schools.

... I should have stated: SARCASM ALERT!

The ESPN money is generated by all the SEC schools, yet the teams do not all get comparable (or close) coverage. Games from this list on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPNNEWS (stations that air all over the country, not just SEC territory)*:

South Carolina .. 11*
Tennessee ........ 6
Kentucky ......... 6
Georgia .......... 2
Arkansas ......... 2
Ole Miss ......... 2
Miss. State ...... 2
Alabama .......... 1
Auburn ........... 1
Texas A&M ........ 1
LSU .............. 1
Missouri ......... 1
Florida .......... 0
Vanderbilt ....... 0

*That could be 12 South Carolina appearances if the Gamecocks are in the Championship or Third Place game of the Women's Battle for Atlantis.

I realize that many of the SEC teams are not ranked (at least in the pre-season) and that South Carolina has three "made for TV" games, but 11 South Carolina games versus ZERO for Florida or Vanderbilt is a bit of overkill, IMHO. Share the spotlight, ESPN!
