Another anchor dropped

Post by vandyfan52 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 6:19 pm

Despite such a difficult season, it is nice to know that we are still reeling in recruits.
It has been reported that Emily Bowman, a 6'5 post from Huntsville, AL verballed to us and looks set to join Bella LaChance in our 2020 class. She plays for a really strong AAU program (Southern Starz) that features highly regarded 2021's Sara Puckett, Karoline Striplin, and Jenna Walker (players who have been on campus and offered as well).
Congratulations on her decision.

#60 recruit in the class of 2020! Always great to have size on the low block.

Looks like she was high priority for us as CSW, Shereka Wright, and Gary Redus all were at her home visit.

The Southern Starz were all at CSW's Elite Camp last year. Hope they return this summer as well.

Nice job CSW and staff!

This is impressive. If the men's side has any solid verbals for 2020, I've yet to hear about it.

Class of 2017 # 28 Autumn Newby
Career ppg 6.5 total points 291

Class of 2016 #45 Lea Lea Carter
Career ppg 5.4 total points 340

Injuries, player personal development and motivation, coaching and I’m sure other factors play into how these players pan out.

I just don’t buy into these recruiting rankings, take a look at the men’s team for example.

Points well-taken, gymbo. Personally, it's just a sense of hope to know that despite our struggles, CSW and staff do well on the recruiting trail - not just for our strong class of 2018, but our deep class of 2019, and now verbals for class of 2020. There remains good high school talent who still want to be part of the program... And the staff is filling program positional/skill needs as well.

8 on roster now not counting, I guess, a preferred walk on, 7 commitments for 2019 brings scholarships to limit. 4 rising seniors next season including Fasoula. So in two years there will be 11 first and second year players. After a possible five years of a new regime we will still probably be the youngest team in the conference. I guess Butch Jones left a few bricks laying around.

Good points. But in a couple of years, those four upperclassmen (Hall, Newby, Cambridge and Alexander) could be a solid leadership group for a bunch of frosh and sophs.

I know that sounds optimistic, probably more optimistic than I really feel because a number of things would all have to go right for that to happen, and I'm not very optimistic that they all will. But if it does happen, it could be good, even though most of the players on the team would be young. So another case when I can be cautiously optimistic about the possibility of being cautiously optimistic sometime in the future. 8-)
