Happy national Transfer Portal day, Dec. 5

Post by BrentVU »

Dec. 5 is the first day that players who played in 2022 can OFFICIALLY enter the transfer portal, so it's possible we may see a flurry of announcements today.

As of this moment, Vandy's number stands at five who have declared publicly: RB Ray Davis, RB Rocko Griffin, TE Joel DeCoursey, S Chase Lloyd, and WR Devin Boddie, Jr. (Two others were dismissed from the team back in September and will show up in the portal as well: RB Maurice Edwards, LB Daniel Martin.)

For comparison's sake, last year Vandy had SEVENTEEN guys leave from the 2021 team, including SIX defensive linemen. Those departures were devastating to Vandy, especially to the defensive line unit. Coach Lea surely hopes to keep that number down this year, even though it wasn't that out of line with a number of other SEC schools.

And 2020, the Covid year, was a nightmare, with guys announcing for the portal and quitting in the middle of the season as things were crumbling around Derek Mason. 12 guys from that team ended up in the portal, not counting six who "opted out" of the season and another one who quit early to focus on his NFL chances.

How well Coach Lea is able to keep his guys around and convince them that the grass is not greener will be a big factor in the success of Team Three.

Wright makes sense. He did a great service to the program and will be a great star at a lower level. I wish him all the best. We could not have won 5 games without him this season and doesn't seem to have a job at Vandy in 2023
