How about Drew Pyne from Notre Dame. Just entered portal and 3 years left

It shouldn't be limited to the QB position, but yes is the answer. When I look at players in the portal, the ones from institutions that are academically oriented always draw the most interest as they are most likely to be Vanderbilt material. Stanford has some attrition on the heels of the Shaw resignation, including their sack leader (DL Stephen Herron) and #2 overall tackler (S Jonathan McGill). Northwestern WR Malik Washington is a grad transfer with 120 catches in his 4 years with the Wildcats. He might be helpful in stretching the field next year.

Stanford had a couple of other very good players enter the portal today as grad transfers.

Washington was recruited by Vandy in high school.

Thank goodness for those two SEC wins...if the staff is more transfer oriented this cycle (and i hope they are) the credibility of the 5-7 record might be very important.

Hopefully, we aren't going to lose some of our key guys.

In fact, Stanford has had 12 just this week. Some are grad transfers, though.

I'd say take any transfer if they can help...grad or not.....Too many positions that we need immediate help!!

You begin by asking the question, how many guys do we have coming back at this position? The answer right now is five, and that's a lot. Someone could leave, but if not, that's a lot of QBs to have on scholarship. It's not really a position of need.

The next question to ask is, since QB is currently a position of depth for us, could we get a guy who is head-and-shoulders better than anyone we have now? If Caleb Williams wants to transfer in, I say take him. But if he's not on that level, then if you're Clark Lea / Barton Simmons, you might not want to upset the apple-cart by bringing in someone who's not a fit with the team mindset. You have to evaluate both talent and character/chemistry, and that might be a high hurdle to get over.

So, are they? I doubt it; if they're looking, they're probably looking at DBs and D-linemen. Should they? Everyone probably has a different answer to that. Depends on the quality of fish you think you could catch.

If a guy is head and shoulders above the QBs we have, he's probably not in the portal.

Here are the top QBs in the portal thus far, ranked by ESPN... are any of these worthy of going after?

Devin Leary, N.C. State
Spencer Sanders, Oklahoma State
D.J. Uiagelele, Clemson
Austin Reed, Western Kentucky
Cade McNamara, Michigan (has announced a commitment to Iowa)
Davis Brin, Tulsa
Hudson Card, Texas

I'd think we'd want someone who is accustomed to being a backup after losing a starting job...

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...JT Daniels. :P

I am all in on AJ. Remember, he was a true freshman and still did well. We need experienced linemen on both sides of the ball, the more the merrier. Games are won and lost in the trenches. Hit the portal for some experienced linemen. I would say next need would be Defensive Backs. Heck at this point I would love to see more people coming in than leaving.

So sad we now have to recruit out of 3 different buckets: High School, Transfer Portal, and current players.

Well Wright is gone. That leaves 4QBs Swann, Seals and who are the other two and what are their qualities??? Is Seals staying to ride the bench again for a staff that pretty much snubbed him?

We need a couple big linemen with SEC talent from the portal to fill in until our young ones mature.

No decent QB will transfer here unless they think they have a fair shot at competing for the starting position. Who would transfer in knowing they're second or third team at best? If the staff is all-in with AJ Swann as the starter, as they seem to be, we can't expect another QB to transfer in.

Is Swann's durability a question mark??

Grad transfers might work better so that younger players don't feel like they are being pushed out in the grand scheme of things.
