Re: Vanderbilt-Alabama game thread
Our pass D is awful. We give big cushions and then drop off on even those. No pressure on the QB.
I feel for these guys and the coaches trying to develop schemes, but we have to have more talent across the board to even know what defense might work. Hope Santa brings CCL a big bag of DL (and OL) with nasty attitudes.

Wright would’ve had that first down. Bad move really. Maybe they’re waiting to insert him later in the season. But that should’ve been Wright.

Re: Vanderbilt-Alabama game thread
Our play calling on short yardage has been very costly.
Get under center for half a yard. Stop testing the middle. We have established we can’t get a yard up the middle.
The thing about good coaches - when they have an edge, they exploit it. Saban is torturing our secondary.

No offense , but I can call a better offense than this. Wright should have been considered in the short yardage situation against such a strong Bama defense.

Re: Vanderbilt-Alabama game thread
I have written a book on effective pass defense which I will share with our coaches. The first chapter involves recruiting some really good DB’s. If you don’t do that, the rest is kinda pointless.

Bama has no trouble covering our receivers.

We have some ok corners. Lucien certainly was good for UConn. Our scheme is scared.
Tonight, I get being scared. But generally our cushions are so big we make NIU freshmen look great. With no pressure and big cushions, what could go wrong?
A lot.
There was some ridiculous holding on that fourth down play.

We sure hate to move the pocket.
We have abandoned the misdirection that was getting some results.
We often move away from what is working. I wish I were wrong, but I think we draw up plans and stick with plans - even when it moves away from what had modest success.
Again, we are not going to win this game. But the staff needs to adjust in real time. Losing that battle right now.

I think they got discouraged by the one screen to McGowan that didn’t work after it was successful several times early. Then they abandoned it. Just because it fails one time doesn’t mean they need to scrap it altogether.

Re: Vanderbilt-Alabama game thread
I can't see a single aspect of football where we are anywhere close to Bama in ability. Their receivers are so open and I can't see why that is the case: player speed is an issue but I can't see that being the total problem. We just don't seem to be locked on to anyone.
