Video: RB coach Norval McKenzie, WR coach Alex Bailey, OL coach AJ Blazek discuss Preseason Practice 7

Post by BrentVU »

The team practiced outdoors Friday morning. They are working towards the first scrimmage of the season which will take place Saturday morning on Ensworth's field (construction and turf replacement are happening at Vanderbilt Stadium). That scrimmage is closed to the public.

Three of the offensive assistants, including new WR coach Alex Bailey (his first time on camera), discuss Thursday's practice session:

Coach Blaz talked about the offensive line, and listen to what he says about Gunnar Hansen. At 6-5 320, Hansen positioned himself in the offseason to be the guy who will replace Tyler Steen at the all-important left tackle position. He will be the only starter who doesn't have much playing experience yet.

Blaz also talks about Jacob Brammer and reveals that he is good enough to be competing for playing time with Bradley Ashmore at RT, which is saying something. Brammer, the 6-4, 301-pound transfer from North Texas, is a fifth-year player (graduate transfer) who has a ton of college experience under his belt; and don't discount that because it's not a P5 school. Brammer is a great addition, and Blaz says he, Ashmore, and Xavier Deflin Castillo could move around and share the RG & RT spots.

And Julian Hernandez, who played a lot last season after Michael Warden went down, has bulked up to 6-4 315 and seems to have a lock on the Center spot.

Listening to these coaches makes you think we might have a chance at wining 5 or 6 games, no matter wat the prognosticators say.
