A recent NCAA rule change now allows juniors to take official visits as early as Sept. 1 of their junior year, as opposed to Sept. 1 of their senior year. So we are seeing a few rising seniors take their official visits this summer. The following rising seniors have all announced OFFICIAL visits to Vandy during June:
DL Jaren Woods 6-4 280 LaGrange, Texas
DL Elinneus Davis 6-3 295 Moorhead, Minn.
DL De'Marion Thomas 6-4 325 Tulsa-Union, Okla.
DL Nnamdi Udeogu 6-5 228 Rockville-Georgetown Prep, Md.
OL R.J. Grigsby 6-3 310 Kennesaw-North Cobb, Ga.
QB Reese Mooney had also scheduled a June official visit before he abruptly decided to de-commit earlier this week; it's unlikely he'll follow through on that now.
Getting an invitation for an official visit (which the school pays for) is generally a sign the school is really interested in you. Vandy is obviously targeting some big, ready-made linemen for this coming class... as well it should. (The weakness of the 2022 team is almost certain to be defensive line, after six D-linemen departed for the portal after last season, and with a couple of other key contributors recovering from injuries.)
