Some very initial work starting in South end zone
Looks like it's just core soil sampling...but it's a start.

Meanwhile, over in East Tennessee, they're installing a party deck in the north end upper level.
I would NOT want to be anywhere under or near that.

Re: Some very initial work starting in South end zone
One of the reasons I'm asking is that in the late 1960s, Vanderbilt had a basset hound as its unofficial mascot. At some point, months after the students all started thinking of this dog as the school mascot, it got hit by a truck and died, and they buried the dog beside one of those magnolia trees. I suspect no one who steps foot on the Vanderbilt campus today knows this, but at some point workers may dig that dead dog up. Just FYI.

Here's the official rendering for the renovated south end zone exterior and McGugin Center and the new walkway between them (replacing Jess Neely Drive):

If this is accurate, it appears the magnolia trees will be gone and Bradford pears will be in the walkway.

Always hopeful; rarely optimistic.

Yes... that's one of anecdotes from my 2005 book that Vanderbilt sort of cut and pasted and sent out in a press release a few years later.OldDude wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:57 amYes , his name was George followed a few years later by Samantha. Absolutely ! Weak structure, require lots of maintenance just to keep from collapsing, super invasive. Some cities have actually outlawed planting them; the entire state of S Carolina is banning them in 2024.dcdore wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 1:04 pmBradford pears are the devil's tree.FayetteDore wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 12:45 pm Here's the official rendering for the renovated south end zone exterior and McGugin Center and the new walkway between them (replacing Jess Neely Drive):

Gosh they smell so bad. And I am amazed at how dense the wood is for something that falls over so easily. Horrible chore cutting one up - bring multiple chainsaw chains with you if the need arises.commadore wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 4:43 pmNot to mention the giver of horrible allergies!

Re: Some very initial work starting in South end zone
Was George buried near the southern end zone (where the construction is taking place) or the northern end zone?historybill wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 11:09 am One of the reasons I'm asking is that in the late 1960s, Vanderbilt had a basset hound as its unofficial mascot. Re: Some very initial work starting in South end zone
I just got a survey about stadium amenities and luxury boxes and such from Candice Storey Lee. They want opinions about game day atmosphere. All I had was "when we have a prayer of winning, the games are more interesting to fans."
