OT: Last Carmichael Towers implode Saturday morning

After delaying demolition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vanderbilt University is moving forward on its plan to demolish Carmichael Towers East residence hall with a controlled implosion on Saturday, July 31. The implosion of the 14-story Towers 1 and 2 is scheduled for 9 a.m.

1106E for me. There were only 2 buildings in 1966-67. They were new and really nice. Many fond memories.

Some of it involved the Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman re-runs on channel 2 after the late news. But that's a really long story for a different day and probably not safe for work anyway. Did they ever figure out if it was a waxy yellow buildup or not?

I lived in a single in Tower 2 for the second semester of my junior year (I lived in the fraternity house for first semester and then traded places with guy who was taking my room in the house).

I lived in one of the suites in Tower 4 my senior year. The suite had two doubles, two singles, a good size living area, a kitchen and bathroom. One night, a suitemate who lived in one of the two the singles went to bed hammered and got up in the middle of the night. Instead of turning right out of his room to walk to the
bathroom at the end of the short hall, he turned left and walked into the double room at the other end of the hall. He started pissing on the bed of one of guys in the double room at the exact location of where the toliet would have been had he been in the bathroom.

When I lived on the 6th floor (I don’t remember which tower), we had a fellow on the other side who was removed from school. Among the reasons were that he had fashioned a pass key for himself that would open any door in the building. Oh, and I heard that he used what he learned in chemistry class to mix up a batch of nitroglycerin in the 6th floor bathroom.
