247 Sports: RB Ja'Veon Marlow, OL Drew Birchmeier no longer with the team
As BrentVU had mentioned previously, Birchmeier isn't that much of a surprise as he has not been listed on the roster. Marlow was on and off the playing field last year and this spring due to Covid, injury, and suspension. His loss hurts as we are already very thin at RB.

And these two as well, from the same article:
Redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Donald Fitzgerald and redshirt freshman tight end Diego LaMonica, scholarship players who had not appeared in a game for Vanderbilt, also are no longer listed on the roster.

Wasn't Fitzgerald a real longshot project anyway? Isn't that stud transfer RB pretty much a lock for first string by a mile and then some?

Yes. When he was signed he had only played one season of high school ball and was very lightly recruited.

I think a healthy Marlow would have competed for a starting spot. He showed some real explosiveness as a backup to Ke'Shawn Vaughn a couple seasons back. My understanding is that last year he was playing hurt (ankle?). Unfortunate to lose both him and Henry-Brooks.MrMemorial wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 11:32 am Wasn't Fitzgerald a real longshot project anyway? The Temple transfer RB's name is Re'mahn Davis.
He was a freshman all American two seasons ago.
Supposed to be pretty good.
Then there is Rocko Griffin who made some nice plays as a Freshman last year.
Two freshmen incoming: Dylan Betts-Pauley and Patrick Smith.
Four total RB on the roster: not a lot of depth at a position with a lot of wear and tear.

What happened to the walk-on (Pryor?) - he was somewhat decent. Hung up his cleats?alathIN wrote: ↑Thu Jul 29, 2021 10:44 pmI think a healthy Marlow would have competed for a starting spot. He was not on the roster when I looked the other day.

I think Blasingame was projected as a linebacker when he got here (?)
Maybe there is a player who could be moved around for one season just for RB depth?
