Somewhere I read that TX and OK are hoping the Big-12 will implode before the expiration of the current agreements. That way, TX and OK will not have to pay the buy-out fee.

Some members of the Big-12 will find homes in major conferences. Kansas and Iowa State seem headed to the Big-10. In all of this shakeout the major losers from the Big-12 could be Baylor, TCU and Kansas State.

They had to know the likelihood of an implosion was great. They could have quietly released their intentions within the confines of the league otherwise. The other members have to look out for themselves in this event, so it becomes a high-stakes game of musical chairs and you better be ready when the music stops.

Unless the B1G climbs down from their AAU high horse, they are facing the need to poach programs from other conferences that are not already in distress. Iowa State is (I believe) the only AAU school in the Big XII leftovers. The B1G could come to the SEC for Missouri or Vanderbilt without stretching the geography too much, or snipe Pittsburg from the ACC. Colorado and Utah out of the PAC12 would be there, but all of these except Vanderbilt could have probably been had in the last decade or so.

I believe Kansas is also an AAU school.

And didn’t Nebraska lose its AAU status after joining the Big10?

Statement from SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey:

The University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas today submitted formal requests for invitations to become members of the Southeastern Conference in 2025.

While the SEC has not proactively sought new members, we will pursue significant change when there is a clear consensus among our members that such actions will further enrich the experiences of our student-athletes and lead to greater academic and athletic achievement across our campuses. The Presidents and Chancellors of the SEC, in their capacity as the conference’s Chief Executive Officers, will consider these requests in the near future. Per the Bylaws of the SEC, a vote of at least three-fourths of the SEC’s 14 members is required to extend an invitation for membership.

One would think that a lot of programs would like to be admitted into the SEC. But, unless those requests just don't warrant a press release by the Commish, I guess not. :?:
