OT: What makes advertisers think...
that I would be interested in Samurai knives or sad news about Clint Eastwood (which isn't true)? Should I really be worried about a secret way to remove the body of toxins and if it is a secret, how do I know these people have it.
Some of these adds are really strange, but I guess they are better than "Russian women waiting for your call." Cut me with a sickle, baby!

Re: OT: What makes advertisers think...
Someone has been trying to sell me (a male) skimpy female bathing suits modeled by busty models. An eyeful.

Well I've learned a lot about sucking the toxins out of my feet.

I don't personally need any sexy maternity dresses - the newest appearance among the ads that show up.

Re: OT: What makes advertisers think...
... we want to listen to commentators talk about everything other than the game at hand: MLB, NBA, NFL, Chris Burke's years at UT, Kyle Peterson's sun tan, some team out west that is "scuffling", Carolina barbecue versus Memphis barbecue, etc.
All it does is get me to mute the TV and try to sync the radio to the televised broadcast.
That's not going to sell a lot of whatever new drug is being advertised.
EDIT: I guess I'm thinking about the current season, but the same sort of thing goes on in football and basketball.

I don't know how much of this is driven by advertisers but it definitely is a ESPN thing. I don't like it at all.Versus75 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 4:55 pm ... we want to listen to commentators talk about everything other than the game at hand: MLB, NBA, NFL, Chris Burke's years at UT, Kyle Peterson's sun tan, some team out west that is "scuffling", Carolina barbecue versus Memphis barbecue, etc.

My favorite one is this combination:
Fans mourn the loss of Clint Eastwood
Right next to
Clint Eastwood confirms the rumor
But, as Abraham Lincoln famously said, “you can’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

Re: OT: What makes advertisers think...
While it might be right, it would probably be wrong for me to say I haven't seen those either.
