As inevitable as the sun rising in the east

Post by AuricGoldfinger »

The transfers of both Dia and Shelby were predictable for several reasons:

* The only reason Dia played at all in the last 7 weeks of the season was because Liam Robbins went down. Shelby never played after Valentine's Day and the last time he logged more than 6 minutes' playing time was January 17. He couldn't displace Trey Thomas despite Thomas' well-known liabilities on defense and struggles from the field.

* We lost an entire freshman class a year ago.

* The game has completely changed. Almost half (19) of the starters on NCAA Elite Eight teams are transfers. K-State doesn't have a single starter that started college in Manhattan. Only 1 of 40 starters on the Elite Eight teams is a true freshman.

I hate it, and I hate that the idea of a freshman sitting much of the season inevitably means that he will transfer at the end of the season, but it is what it is.

We live in an age of unintended consequences, or as they used to call it, "points of emphasis."
