Flash back to early November 2017...both Vanderbilt and Northwestern are coming off NCAA appearances where the Dores narrowly lost to the Wildcatss. It was Northwestern's well-documented first-ever bid, and Vandy's second consecutive NCAA tournament and fifth in the last eight years. Vanderbilt has just picked up a commitment from a local high school superstar, a five-star player joining what will be a heralded signing class.
If I told you then that neither program would appear in the next four NCAA tournaments (five, if you count the non-tourney season of 2020) and that the Wildcats would likely make their next tournament appearance before Vandy, you probably would've never believed me.
The reasons for this are well-documented and much-discussed, but man, this can be a crazy sport.
(And no, this is not a celebration or fond remembrance of the coach who last got Vandy to the NCAA tournament, so don't even go there.)
OT, sorta: Northwestern is 6-3 in the B1G and tied for 2nd, and 15-5 overall
