How old are the people on this board?
I log on after a big road win thinking everyone would be happy only to find a lot of petty bickering and infighting. I find it so strange. We're all pulling for the same team here. Yes, some people are more arrogant and obstinate than others, but sheesh.

Do you think there is a correlation between age and pettiness?MemorialMagic wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 5:43 pm I log on after a big road win thinking everyone would be happy only to find a lot of petty bickering and infighting. The question is valid: i think the mean age is proably greater than 60. There are relatively few youngsters here and as far as I can tell 0 students who probably have more important concerns. I am 79 looking at 80, i hope.

Re: How old are the people on this board?
76 here
With the mention of bickering and infighting in the original post, I guess the age question refers to the pre adolescent back and forth pettiness…sometimes from frequent posters, that grows tiresome. Engaging each other negatively, even in small doses, seems so counter to the purpose and spirit of this board and is more than a little annoying. Just my opinion

39. Class of '05. I missed a lot of terrible VU years in sports. But since 2001, I've seen a bunch of success and I don't like going backwards. Maybe that's why I'm a tough critic. I've seen success in every sport without the doldrums of horrible results. I was roommates and/or friends with some of our most popular players across Football, Basketball and Baseball during those 4 years and then some. My 2 sisters also went to Vandy.

You do not seem to be prone to negativity.charlestonalum wrote: ↑Sun Jan 22, 2023 6:34 pm The question is valid: i think the mean age is proably greater than 60. I believe the people who are doing the most "petty bickering" have been doing it for a long time. Maybe they have refined the art of complaining with age.

Re: How old are the people on this board?
46...and I didn't go to Vandy. That said, my dad grew up in Nashville and was a blue-collar guy that never went to college. He turned me into a Vandy fan. He always had season tickets to football and basketball. He loved cheering for "the smart kids." That's how he put it anyway. I may not be an alumnus, but I bleed black and gold. I have been there for all the heart break of being a Vandy fan. I have also been there for all the College WS appearances, Memorial Magic, and great surprises of Vandy Football the last 40 years. I love Vandy. It is the one thing my dad and I shared.
Oh, and just for S&G's... APSU class of 2002

VM, we need more guys like you...gosh 46, so long ago...
I'm 70, class of '74, my daughter's class of '09
I'm from the upbeat crowd generally, although I am concerned that in the brave new world of college sports things will only get dicier for old VU.

fitty-five. I am extremely positive, and have the self-esteem it takes to be that way when the losses add up.
the way I look at it is, our coaches are our coaches until they aren't. In the meantime I support them with everything I have.

Re: How old are the people on this board?
I'm 58. No one in my family has ever attended Vanderbilt, yet we are extremely dedicated life long fans! Our dad growing up by Centennial Park, and being the youngest of 8 kids allowed him to walk over on game days. As he tells it, they didn't have extra money to afford tickets, but being a kid hanging around often got him a free ticket. Although our family settled in east Nashville, dad passed along his passion for all Vandy sports, and probably my brother and I are even bigger fans. Our parents made sure that their 3 kids would have college degrees, and the majority of our kids have done the same with a few of us going on to Grad School.
I prefer to be an upbeat positive fan, but I will admit my passion can get in the way because I am extremely competitive. I always want my teams to fight and play to their best ability, and if they do that then I understand losses happen. I struggle when it seems our teams/coaches/players don't do their best. Reality is these are college students, and there are tons of reasons why a player could have a bad game. At the end of the day, I'm proud to be a Vanderbilt fan, season ticket holder in multiple sports, and when possible make as many of the post season games by traveling wherever I can when possible(somedays being a Baptist Minister doesn't allow me the freedom to travel)
