Former Vanderbilt star Howard Pride resigns from coaching at Stewarts Creek

Post by Golddore68 »

Sorry to see Howard Pride resigned from coaching the boys basketball team at Stewarts Creek.

He had been their coach for five years. The first three years Stewarts Creek, a AAA school, went up against all the other Rutherford County schools, which was brutal. Blackman and Oakland always have strong boys basketball teams. Siegel and Riverdale have good teams every so often. Stewarts Creek, Smyrna and LaVergne were always at the bottom of the district.

Last ayear the TSSAA added a AAAA class to high school basketball and moved Stewarts Creek to another district, with Cane Ridge, Antioch, Smyrna, and LaVergne.

Stewarts Creek had their best season under Pride, going 18-12, 6-2 in the district, only losing to Cane Ridge, which was undefeated in the district.

Stewarts Creek had a lot of seniors, so Pride may have felt like he didn’t want to coach a young team that probably won’t be very good next year.

Stewarts Creek hired the previous coach of Watertown High Schiol to replace Pride.
