Re: DJ Harvey into the transfer portal
DJ didn't seem to ever find his groove, except for in practice I guess. We don't seem to do well with ND transfers.

Re: DJ Harvey into the transfer portal
It would be interesting to research (and I don't have the time to do it) how many transfers really work out well and help a team a lot - there are a few that have done so for Vanderbilt over the years - but on the whole, it just seems like most of them don't end up making huge contributions. We get our hopes up, but they don't pan out.

Re: DJ Harvey into the transfer portal
The first clue is if they are the best (pick your poison) in practice, then they will do the team no good. It is like the blind date joke. You know "she's real cute, all the girls like her and she makes her own clothes." Can't ball at all.Georgiadore wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:17 am It would be interesting to research (and I don't have the time to do it) how many transfers really work out well and help a team a lot - there are a few that have done so for Vanderbilt over the years - but on the whole, it just seems like most of them don't end up making huge contributions. Re: transfers who work out well
The jury is still out on Mellora-Brown, but in recent years I would say we didn't get much value out of Harvey, Ryan and Wetzell. Remember, they got two years of free education and expenses in exchange for one mediocre season of basketball.Georgiadore wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 10:17 am It would be interesting to research (and I don't have the time to do it) how many transfers really work out well and help a team a lot - there are a few that have done so for Vanderbilt over the years - but on the whole, it just seems like most of them don't end up making huge contributions. Transfers that made a positive impact for the 'Dores include:
Billy McCaffrey (Duke) - SEC POY / All America
Derrick Byars (Virginia) - SEC POY
Ross Neltner (LSU) - outscored Kentucky single-handedly in the first half of a game
Bruce Elder (Davidson) - Academic All-American of the Year / 2nd Team All-SEC
Pax Whitehead (Cornell) - 2nd Team All-SEC
Chris Lawson (Indiana) - 2 year starter / 11.9 ppg
Surely there are some more recent impact transfer players. I just can't think of any at the moment.

Re: DJ Harvey into the transfer portal
I'll add Nolan Cressler to the positive addition for his solid senior year contribution.
Chuck Moore was good.
Not so good: Moyer, Michael LeBlanc from UConn years ago, Eric McClellan would have been passable had it not been for legal issues, Larry Austin
