Box score

Post by alwaysvu » Thu Mar 14, 2019 1:38 am

I know I know everybody's tired of the season but look at the box score this is not on the coach I don't care if we had Dean Smith tonight we would not have won. you can not win any games if nobody can score points we have certain players that supposed to be great truth be told it's a stretch to say their role players . Bring on the baseball

That is where you are wrong. It IS on the coach when you throw it around for 28 seconds with no plan or play called, forcing a hurried or contested shot in the last second. Did you see ANY semblance of an organized play? I certainly didn't.

have said it before: it's the coach's team and there's no denying that.

This. xCKS would have set plays to get Ryan 5+ open 3 pt. looks a game, instead of Ryan having to play outside of his comfort zone jacking up semi-open 25 footers because he knows it may be the best look he can get. (Not advocating for his return, merely stating a truth in the difference in coaching styles.) Stallings would have won at least 6 SEC games with the talent on this roster.

Twenty-game losing streaks are excusable, actually.

We shot 16 of 27 from inside the three point line last night, but much like the first game against A&M (where we shot 18 of 31 from inside the three), we insisted on taking a very high number of treys. Combined in the two games, we were 8 of 54 from three, or 14.8%. That's terrible.

Versus75 ---- if you're reading this thread, are you going to continue your teetotaling now our losing streak is extended to November? Alcohol is a hell of a thing to give up during a losing streak.

At this point, I'm ambivalent about whether CBD is retained or not, although I think he will be retained. Still, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, no point guard equals no wins. Last night's box score reinforces that point as we had just six assists total as a team, and only one of those came from our point guards. Max had one assist and no turnovers, while Saben had zero assists and four turnovers. Saben played 40 minutes and had zero assists. I don't even know how that could be possible.

I had high hopes this season but once DG went down you could tell it was almost season. After the ASU win, the team was lost and could not get back. We should give CBD at least one more year to prove himself.

This team was not coached up. It regressed as the year slumped along. I really don't see a benefit to having Drew coach another year, unless your decision is strictly a financial one.

if this is accurate, it highlights perhaps bd's greatest shortcoming--his inability to consistently assess sec caliber talent.

And another cold shower as if we need one, Nesmith (our consensus best player) averaged only eight points per game the last five games of the season while hitting double figures in scoring once (barely) due to shooting 8-32 from three and 15-48 total from the field. That would be 25% and 31%.

I agree, this staff does not know what to tell these guys. You can not tell me that someone on this staff can not show these guys how to improve their foul shooting. An that poor Shittu , there is not anything about him game that can't change by a mile. Him running down that floor like some one crazy is such a joke.

I haven't touched the brew since before our home loss to Kentucky. That's over SIX WEEKS! Clearly my longest dry spell since high school. (The drinking age in Tennessee was 18 when I started at Vanderbilt.)

If I can hold out until the next basketball season, I may just give up the stuff completely.

But it's not exactly what you would call "teetotaling." I've opened a few wine bottles and taken a liking to Costco spiced rum. Also bought a Sodastream machine to give my non-beer drinking some variety.

When I go to the BigO Vandyville tailgates during football season, I will bring some aged ales to the party and partake of the other spirits.

PS: Does the team play some games overseas this summer?
