1. Pippen had flu or some bug - not full speed
2. Bigs not rebounding
3. Offense - just couldn't get ball in hoop
4. Overtime - can't be careless with ball and should not foul - make them make shots
5. Proud of the grind but need to play smarter and harder
6. " Game I felt like we should have won" - need to learn from it.
7. Very disappointed but proud of the effort

That makes sense whey Pippen didn't play that much - but Temple was missing their leading scorer completely, so we should have won that game even with a less than 100% Pippen.

Our offense just completely disappears at times - I remember the complaints about CKS' offense doing this, typically after going without a FG for 5-6 minutes. We've got a couple of examples of us going 10 minutes while scoring 2 or 4 points. It is difficult to win when the offense completely disappears for 10 minute stretches.

Also said Stute and QMB were benched because they got no rebounds in the first half.

Exciting could have been finish to an otherwise dismal performance. Like others who have posted I’m at a total loss to see any semblance of an offense. Sure, some shots were there, but just didn’t fall. However, it seems the “game plan” (and I use the term loosely) is for Wright or Pippin to go one on one. Both were repeatedly dribbling into traffic with nothing but forced shot opportunities.
For much of the game I was thinking we won’t win another one, and will likely be dead last in the conference again.
So sad where the program is.

Obviously the offense needs improvement. Again, as Jason has pointed out multiple times, a healthy Robbins wins that game last night with rebounding and an inside presence that can create different offensive looks. QMB is good at running pick and pop and setting screens in the middle of the floor to create looks, but his rebounding is limited. Without him on the floor the O does become far more reliant on dribble drive from Pippen (who had the flu/bug) or Wright, who is not as effective at finishing at the rim. Again, Robbins creates a totally different look and accounts for all kinds of problems for opponents to solve.

Another big factor in last night’s loss was FT:
VU: 16-24
Temple: 30-37
Easily deciding factor in the game. Pippen shorted a few of his FT. Makes sense if he was fatigued from an illness.

The defense is still pretty good at this point (2nd best FG% D in the SEC, though VU doesn’t have the best SOS, so that will change as conference play begins).

Did not get to attend the game last night, family obligation. It seems to stand out, from some comments and the box, that some basics are still an issue. Rebounding has to improve. 66% vs almost 80% on FTs is certainly unacceptable. 15% from three ( a lousy stat which is becoming a little too common) and 34 % overall ( seems indicative of horrible shot selection) will not create wins no matter how tough our D.

Every team has off shooting nights but , for us , these nights are becoming way too normal. The problems above are all addressable through coaching. If Stack wants to be a "roll out the ball" kind of coach , he needs to take the ball some place else.

ps- on drive penetrations are the guys till trying those floaters going full tilt ? Do they know it is legal to lay the ball against the square above the rim to soften the momentum ? The number of "rim outs" in close looks high.

Much boils down to the fact we have no real shooters(consistent) other than maybe Pippen most nights. We are getting killed by other teams shooting & making 3's when we only make them sparingly. Thomas so far has been throwing up bricks most nights. Yes, he has one game where he hit a few. If he can't hit a 3 what does he bring other than a few minutes rest for others? Stack's recruiting up until next year's group has been awful. Maybe it just took him a while to get feet wet. The offense is so disorganized it's comical if not for being sad. Dribble drives are good but you have to have some outside shooting and a good inside out to set up the 3's also. Disappointed in Stack so far. maybe next year's crop will make a difference. Next year we will depend on a Freshman center with no experience or backup. Stack's brown suit(as it appeared on TV) looked awful as a funny side note for Mr GQ

2x 3stars and 1x4 star and 9th in SEC isnt a great recruiting year for a basketball school. Im sure Pippen is gone too, so the gets dont out way the loss(es). .... good players dont always make good coaches, and Stacks laziness in getting a top 3 SEC top 20 Natl class is what is needed to play the roll-it out there system he has.

Had hopes for this year but bad bad start to season vs schedule we have played.

Coach Jerry Stackhouse's 2022 class currently stands No. 19 nationally and No. 5 in the SEC.
Dort, Shelby and Smith are considered 4-star prospects according to the 247Sports Composite

Some of the fans seem to be on an anti-VU bandwagon.

3 of the 4 are 4 stars & 1 a high 3 star is pretty darn good...better than the last couple of years. No Oton sightings though thank goodness.

Every coach of every sport at every school. They all say it as needed.

But is there really a process? I guess Corbin has one that works. Mason's didn't work after 6 years. Will Stack be around to see HIS process work? His poor recruiting of the past and accepting poor transfers is showing up in our awful play so far. His next class may finally show some real talent and hopefully turn things around. He has to back it up with continued recruiting success year after year...
