Trying to repeat 2002

Post by Titans309fan »

The Titans have been around since 1999, but 2002 was the only year where they won the last five games of the regular season. It propelled them to the division title, as they beat the Giants, Colts, Patriots, Jags, and Texans (all teams the Titans have beat or need to beat this year).

That Giants game on the road was special. McNair wasn't even supposed to play, and the Titans were coming off a no TD 13-12 loss to the Ravens. The Giants failed on perhaps an ill-advised 2 point conversion early in the fourth to give them a 26-14 lead. After an Eddie George TD midway through the quarter made it 26-21, the Giants have first and goal on the one with just under 4 minutes left. But like last Thursday, the Titans D stopped them, and the Giants settled on a field goal. McNair then had an amazing drive to get a TD with 14 seconds left, and then ran in the 2-point conversion himself for the tie. The defense forced a punt in OT, and McNair had another great drive to set up the winning field goal.

It's going to be a cold, rainy Sunday in that area for the game. Despite the Giants having a terrific running back, the Titans have a significantly better rushing offense, and the Titans defense is significantly better as well. Odell Beckham, Jr is still injured and may miss a 2nd straight game. If the rain doesn't cause several Titans turnovers, I like our chances (Titans have never lost to the Giants on the road, and only once overall).

The Titans run game dominated the Giants run game, and the Titans had zero turnovers to two for the Giants in the 17-0 victory. I was just so happy to finally get a shutout, the first one since Christmas day, 2000 (Cowboys).

Henry has been a surprise, rushing for over 400 yards and 6 TDs in these last two games. One complaint about Henry in the past is that he goes down as soon as he was hit. But not anymore (what a beast!)

The Titans should beat the Redskins on Saturday (though the Redskins are 2-0 in Nashville), setting up what looks to be a win-and-get-in game with the Colts on Dec 30 (which very well might be flexed into Sunday night football).

The Titans have 8 wins already, more than most of you thought would happen before the season started. Just keep on winning...
