VANDY UNITED REACHES THE GOLF PROGRAM

Post by Seadog73 »

I got the following email today:
Dear Commodore Nation,
It is my great pleasure to share with you the latest project made possible by the historic Vandy United campaign. Spurred forward by generous initial seed gifts from former student-athletes and Vanderbilt Hall of Famers Toby Wilt, BE’66, Brandt Snedeker, BA’03, and Lew Conner, BA’60 and JD’63, along with their wives, Lucianne Wilt, Mandy Snedeker, BA’02, and Ashley Conner, BA’60, we today reaffirm our commitment to the home of our men’s and women’s golf champions. By standing with the Wilts, Snedekers and Conners, alumni and golf supporters will allow us to make a major investment in significant upgrades to men’s and women’s golf teams’ facilities at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The Vanderbilt Legends Club has been home to our men’s and women’s golf programs for more than 20 years, an era of unprecedented success and excellence for both programs. Since taking up residence on the iconic courses designed by Tom Kite and Bob Cupp, Commodores have won five SEC Championships, reached 22 NCAA Championships and amassed more than 40 All-America honors. Just this past year, the women’s team won the NCAA Franklin Regional at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, the men’s team advanced to the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship semifinals and freshman Gordon Sargent won the men’s individual national championship.

Under the leadership of Scott Limbaugh, Thomas F. Roush, M.D. and Family Men’s Golf Head Coach, and Greg Allen, a 2021 inductee in the WGCA Coaches Hall of Fame, our programs continue to set a standard of excellence in collegiate golf. Now, with your support and the generous leadership of former Vanderbilt golfers Wilt, Snedeker, Conner and their families, Vandy United will provide our student-athletes with the world-class facilities they need to continue growing and thriving for years to come.

Work on the new practice facility will be led by renowned course architect Beau Welling. Among the planned improvements are:
• Renovation and expansion of the existing team clubhouse facilities, which will increase the building’s footprint by roughly two-thirds and include a new lobby, hall of fame, team lounge, locker rooms, meeting rooms, fitness area, outdoor terraces and offices.
• Renovation and expansion of The Cleo and Lewis Conner, Sr. Short Game Practice Facility and driving range tee boxes. This includes enhancing putting greens with different types of grasses to better mirror playing conditions on competition courses; modifying chipping areas to create more length for a wider array of shots; and expanding the tee box.
• A new strokes gained area to continue to help student-athletes train more efficiently and reach their full potential.

On behalf of Vanderbilt Athletics, I would be grateful if you are able to consider making a gift of any size to the Vandy United campaign to support the Vanderbilt Legends Club project. Your gift helps ensure that two programs will continue to have a home befitting champions.
