Re: How does NIL work?
I wish I knew how the whole NIL thing works, from both the giving and the receiving side. Hypothetical: Let’s say that I am a rabid Vandy alum and basketball fan, with a net worth of, say, $25M (remember I said hypothetical). And I want to donate 10% of that to encourage athletes to come to Vandy. ...

Re: Trey Thomas in the portal
The only narrative that makes sense to me is that he went to the portal with some pretty loft expectations on where he would land, perhaps thinking there might be a place for him at another top 20 academic institution where he'd finish his education and play more. My guess is that the phone didn't ...

Re: Tyrin Lawrence reportedly entering the transfer portal
Maybe it’s just me, but all these academic juniors leaving one year shy of a VU degree just seems shortsighted. I know that to some extent the quality of a degree is limited by your career goals. If you don’t plan to continue in academia in pursuit of an advanced degree, then a degree from another ...

Re: SEC contemplating much harsher penalties for storming the field/court
Those potential penalties seem downright draconian for football with so few games. In basketball they feel less so, but still overkill.
The truth of the matter is that the only way to even hope to stop fans from doing it is to hurt their team's chances at success though.

Re: Forum change: from "likes" to "thanks"
Now when you thank someone the browser sends you back to the thread after the thank. So its pretty painless.egbertsouse wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 7:30 am For me, the big problem with the thanks button is that it temporarily opens up a new page showing that you've thanked the poster. It's a pain in the butt.

Re: Legit Question
A. What is Stackhouse's buyout amount? and B. Would that amount be prohibitive to a NBA team (or even something that would give pause) hiring a head coach? I admit, I don't follow the NBA, so I have no clue as to the above. No idea on the buyout amount. But it is unlikely to be prohibitive for an N...

Re: Legitimate concerns
To state the obvious, this sucks. Suspect that the kids that left VU for the portal didn't do so for this reason. Conversely, kids looking at VU for a transfer site may shy away due exactly to that reason. If he stays do his bona fides as a potential NBA coach help or hurt us. Will recruits look at...

Re: Legitimate concerns
If he's in the running for an NBA job that he would accept, what could he possibly say publicly? He is a credible guy. He can't say that he's not interested because if he jumps ship, then he will have mislead recruits and the fan base. If he says that he is interested, he would be hurting his chanc...

Re: Legitimate concerns
I say this any time we have a coach someone else may be interested in. Its a good thing because it means we have had some level of success. And you can't begrudge a person for wanting to get an NBA job. I agree with those who say that his hands are somewhat tied. Nothing we can do but hope it gets s...

Re: If Angel Reese of LSU...
In Clark's own words: : "I don't think Angel should be criticized at all," Clark said. "No matter which way it goes, she should never be criticized for what she did. I'm just one that competes, she competed. I think everybody knew that here was going to be a little trash talk in the ...

Re: If Angel Reese of LSU...
This conversation is very complicated. Angel Reese was not classy in victory, stalking and taunting Clark. Clark has been brash and cocky all year long. Angel Reese felt that Clark has been disrespectful to other players and taken some of that on. Clark was humbled and that reflected in her post-gam...

Re: It is what it is
Why should players have restrictions placed upon them when transferring? I ask that because there are so few places in life in this country where this level of restriction is placed upon a person's ability to dictate what they do with their life. And it is not lost on me that the folks in charge (t...

Re: It is what it is
Non-athletes DO have restrictions placed on them in some cases, such as which credits they can transfer from the prior institution. Not a restriction on when and how you can go. It is also related to the actual academics of the institution which is what they're supposed to be in the business of doi...

Re: It is what it is
Also, why should the players be restricted from transferring? Just because they play sports??? That just doesn't strike me as a good enough reason. I'm trying to understand the harm, specifically to the conference's TV contracts because those are the only things that move the needle. No athlete is ...

Re: It is what it is
I attended a small college in Louisiana in the early/mid 80's. I will always remember at orientation we were asked to look at the person on our left, and the person on our right. Then they said, only one of the three of you will actually graduate from here if you follow recent classes. Being a supe...

Re: C.J. Taylor says there were "conversations" with UT about entering the transfer portal
Who knows, but this is sufficiently vague enough that any number of things could have happened that would not have violated any rules. I'm pretty certain (90%) boosters can reach out with NIL offers that are "unaffiliated" with the school. That can easily be described as conversations with...

Re: Vanderbilt Education
Completely agree with those who talk about the people at VU being the best thing about it. Your network you build is very valuable and the opportunities that come from that are impactful for all of one's working life.
