Re: Steve Layman (WTVF) trashes Withrow on the air

The majors are just a different story. Every perfect game in the majors is better than what Rocker did (a MLB roster is an order of magnitude better than Duke's lineup). Sorry, but this is an incredibly obtuse statement. It depends on the era. As a baseball coach and someone who gives pitching less...

Re: Georgia on real TV for all 4 NCAA games

Just a heads up, the reason ESPN chose to air all of the Athens regional is that they (and most everyone else) expected one of those games to be Mike Martin's final game. "11" will conclude his 40th season this year and has made the NCAA field all 40 years, along with 16 CWS trips. He is ...

Re: I wonder which draft eligible guys might come back?

DeMarco will likely return as he won't get a big signing bonus and will still have leverage next year as a Junior. Clarke is the one to be concerned about. While he was drafted in the 9th, the Blue Jays will sign their higher picks for under-slot and it looks like they will be able to offer Clarke 3...

Re: Vandy commit Anthony Volpe drafted #30 by NYY

Kendall Williams was also drafted in the second round. https://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=458369 Overall, we had 3 commits drafted yesterday. Looks like Volpe has already made the decision to go pro. I expect Fletcher and Williams to sign also. Williams is reportedly a good st...

Re: I hate the whistler(s)

This entire thread is a microcosm of the problem. We have (arguably) the best baseball team in the NCAA. We swept the SEC regular season and tournament. We have the best player in the SEC in the midst of a historic season... .....and..... the thread about The Whistler is 7 pages long, which is proba...

Re: I hate the whistler(s)

The Whistler(s) need to stop. It's incredibly annoying and it damages our brand. If we've been smart enough to brand "Vandyboys", the last thing we need are the Whistlers ruining the programs reputation. If you don't think that's what is happening, you're blind. They may be nice guys, but ...

Re: Draft info

The good thing about Leiter...he doesn't need money as much as some other kids. Hard to tell a kid from a different background to "not take the money". Leiter (supposedly) has told teams he requires a "big number" to sign. If he comes to campus, he will have a legit shot at being...

I enjoy watching softball. It's embarrassing that Vandy doesn't have a team. We should and it would allow us to add another mens team of some kind...soccer, perhaps.

Re: Up to #1 in RPI

This squad is definitely up there with some of our best teams ever. Personally, I think the 2015 squad was our best overall team. Reynolds, Wiseman and Kendall in the OF. Toffey, Swanson, Campbell and Wiel around the infield. Delay and Ellison behind the plate. Ro Coleman playing all over the place....

Re: Bryan Reynolds Gets The Callup!

Bryan was always one of my favorites. As consistent and steady as they come on offense, and an exceptionally gifted defender. He may never be an MLB All-Star (though I think he could be if he develops a bit more power) but he could be a Nick Markakis-type player for many years.

Re: Pitching for tomorrow???

Just throw the ball down the damn middle of the plate and take your licks if they hit it. Good grief. Completely agree. But it flies in the face of the Scott Brown school of pitching thought which is "live on the corners and throw breaking balls out of the zone". When you have arms as tal...

Re: Novice Question

It's a great question. Corbin's consistency has been exceptional. That being said, the year following our first Omaha appearance was pretty brutal until the last half of the SEC season when our guys caught fire to get a bid. That team had a lot of talent that really shone through the following year,...

He might look like a solid reliever...until he actually pitches. Can't throw strikes. 5 BBs and 3 WPs in 5 innings for the year. Not good.

Re: College baseball bracketology

The schedule does begin to ease up a little beginning this week. Auburn will be tough, but at least it's at home. Missouri is improved, but that series is also at home. Alabama, UK, and South Carolina are all very winnable series home or away. If we could just figure out a way to avoid playing on S...

Joe said last night that Corbs had a "Come To Jesus" meeting over advancing runners. They looked like they responded well. After this weekend the schedule gets easier, with Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, Kentucky, and South Carolina. Not easy, but better than the first five. Glad to hear this...

Re: Oberservations and Comments about this year thus far

At this point in the season: Weaknesses: 1) defense up the middle: Paul and Martin are average to below-average defenders at their current positions 2) bullpen control: too many walks 3) Fellows: not pitching like a Friday night starter for the #1 team in the country 4) situational baseball: too man...

Re: Oberservations and Comments about this year thus far

Defense: Outfield appears to be solid. Imo infield jury is still out. I have my doubts about the middle infielders. A Mart had a couple of hiccups this Saturday and E.P. Is shaky at ss. When Jules comes back it was help greatly. A clear upgrade over Scott.i not sure Clark can handle it behind the p...
