Re: Clark Lea Q&A SEC Media Days full transcript (main media room)

Again, thanks for posting the full transcript. In addition to the specific information about players and the general overview of the program, three things really stand out to me: 1. Is there a more cerebral coach in the SEC? Who else would say something like this (in reply to the question about Texa...

Re: SEC Media Days: Will Sheppard Q&A full transcript

Thanks for posting the transcript, especially since I didn't get to watch. Particularly intrigued by this answer: THE MODERATOR: If there's one thing you enjoy the most about playing an SEC game what is it? WILL SHEPPARD: The atmosphere. It's crazy. Going into those big stadiums, especially teams li...

Re: Officiating at last year's Vandy-UT game

There will be several rule changes next year to speed up the game. How about simply allowing the game to continue while TV is in a long beer commercial break, rather than having the official standing with the digital clock on the edge of the field showing the 3 1/2 minute countdown until the commer...

Yes, I see it there on pages 219-223.
Just before the next chapter: Lust, Repression, and Good Clean Fun. No wonder I overlooked it first time around.

Re: UT infractions case gets more bonkers

... Bank records showed that Pruitt and assistant coach Brian Niedermeyer ( who also coached with Pruitt at Alabama ) made large cash withdrawals on dates surrounding all-expenses-paid recruiting visits and alleged payments to recruits, players and their families. Both said that didn’t mean anythin...

Re: Laughable NCAA enforcement strikes again

Alabama had 21 on-the-field wins vacated in 2005–2007, and 8 wins and 1 tie forfeited in 1993, due to NCAA sanctions.

All those wins still show up on the official Alabama football website and media guide as wins, including the scores. A small footnote at the bottom notes the number of forfeits.

Re: Laughable NCAA enforcement strikes again

A mere bagatelle. Producing a recent 11-2 record is well worth the price. The guy whose infractions resulted in those substantial penalties could never have gone 11-2. If he'd stayed, they might have gone 2-11 though. How he he managed to go 2-1 against Vandy is a mystery to me. I DO feel sorry for...

Re: Laughable NCAA enforcement strikes again

NCAA gives the serious cheaters another escape hatch.....cheat like crazy for a couple of years, get caught, delay, appeal, delay, investigate, fire the coach until all miscreants are gone or transferred, and get a slap on the wrist. Bad Boys! You left out this part Pete (from Knox News): Most of t...

Re: The Athletic (premium): VU Chancellor Harvie Branscomb proposed a "Magnolia League" in 1962; it went nowhere

This article is fascinating and alone is worth a subscription (and no, I don't get paid to shill for The Athletic). Although the discussions didn't ultimately result in a new league, there WERE extensive discussions that, the article says, apparently ended when Branscomb retired a year later in 1963...

So only 5 of the 14 are sending QBs. Is that about the average? Seems like there are usually more QBs.

None that i know of.
P.S. It's interesting to see the twists & turns these threads take.
Yes, kinda like a casual conversation: a mention of one subject leads to another, and so on and on. What can you do?! h0414

Another interesting story that most of you probably know: Ty Bartholomew's family has strong ties to both VU and UT. His great-grandfather, from Kingsport, played fb at UT. His late grandfather, Sam Bartholomew Jr. - a Vietnam vet and Nashville lawyer who played big roles in establishing the Nashvil...

Being ranked dead last in the West has got to stick in War Eagle's craw. Especially since they finished next to last in '22.

Okay, I'll weigh in, by repeating UT pitcher Camden Sewell:

"We fell short. But if you want to end your season, this is the place you want to end it."

If he deigned to think about it at all, he might have added: "Not in some regional game, against Xavier!"

Re: Here are your 2024 opponents

Doubtless most of us grew up with a 10-member SEC and are nostalgic about it. But it's worth remembering, as we all know, one of the SEC's predecessors was the SIAA, which grew to 30 members, including Texas. From the SEC History website: The seven-member SIAA expanded to 19 institutions in 1895 (Al...
