Re: Non-conference schedule released

I'm OK with this. We *should* start 4-0. NC St, and BYU/ASU may not be world beaters but will be good tests for us. BC should be a win, and I know they aren't what they used to be, but they're still an ACC team. Memphis will be a test ... after we've had 10 games to figure out who we are, and after ...

Re: Relive VU's epic 1996 home loss to Notre Dame here

Mandela effect in action. This is the one and only football game I ever attended while at Vandy ... and for 20+ years I've been telling the story of the 50-yard TD pass on 3rd-and-37 as a 50 yard TD pass on 3rd-and-goal. I have totally been remembering it wrong!

Re: Video: Coach Stackhouse, Tyrin Lawrence, Ezra Manjon press conferences Wed. Aug. 9

Stackhouse's interviews are always interesting to me. I feel like he is more genuine than most of the other head coaches. I also think Jason Rivera-Torres is getting the opportunity for media exposure because he is an "actor". He is already very experienced in front of a microphone. You c...

Re: WAY OT: Memphis & Big 12 redux

Wow, a ton of moving pieces:: From an overall college experience for the students, what should VU change or maintain in this fast changing environment. I hope the school leadership will take a deep dive here, there’s a ton to consider. This is almost as much fun as a head coaching search. I think V...

It's called "AAA".

Re: WAY OT: Memphis & Big 12 redux

FSU wanting an unbalanced share of conference revenue surely makes them less attractive, right? Right? I don't know all the details, but some of this is likely negotiable. In football, I feel like the ACC has Florida State, Clemson, maybe Miami and largely a bunch of crap. Correspondingly, I don't ...

Re: James Strong named as new assistant coach

Good point. Upward mobility (up to a point) is over-sold and over-sought. No one wants to live on the government dime or from paycheck to paycheck. But societal pressure to get that next promotion, to buy that bigger house or better car is intense. It's especially hard for me to understand with pro...

Re: tyler tanner

Said it before and I'll say it again. The best team we've had since I've started following Vandy basketball (which, sadly, was 1994 ... one year too late), was a team that played a 6-5 guard at power forward and a 6-9 9pt/5reb guy at center. If the team is good, I don't care that we're small. That d...

Re: James Strong named as new assistant coach

Something does not seem to quite add up. Strong graduated in 2000. 23 years ago. Yet he has not especially advanced as a coach. In no way do I question his ability as a player at Vandy. Or his dedication to Vandy, although he spent quite a few years elsewhere, for example as an assistant at Belmont...

Re: Too soon for locker room material???

We'll see what ends up happening, but I expect this to be a classic case of "we're better than people expect us to be, and we all know it ... but they clearly don't". From the outside looking in: Last year we were a mediocre team that got hot late, but still only made the NIT. From that te...

Re: Is there any Chance?

He has already had some very apologetic things to say recently, which is a good sign. Two things, though: A lot of people are saying Houston, Charlotte, and Memphis got steals with Cam Whitmore, Nick Smith Jr., and Jackson. Those players all slid very far from where they were at one time expected t...

Re: James Strong named as new assistant coach

I always loved that James Strong-Atiba Prater backcourt we had for awhile. Two of my favorite Dores.

Also two of the quicker and more athletic guards we've had over the years. I often wish we had more players like them!

The Jackson kid from South Carolina was the #6 ranked h.s. player in the nation? Re-classified and played college ball very young and still is only 18? https://247sports.com/player/gg-jackson-46103379/ What a steal Memphis got in the mid-second round. Averaged 15 & 6 in college while he should ...

Is there any Chance?

Is there any chance Liam hears his name called out tonight? I know he is certainly ot projected as a first rounder. But the sort of production he had - and as a rim protector too no less! - against quality competition in the SEC is the sort of thing that I feel has to start looking good when you get...

Re: 21st Century Teams

Loved la chance. Every time I hear fans of other teams say “hasn’t that guy graduated yet?” It usually means he’s been an impact player for a long time. And they said that about La Chance a lot. Plus, he looked like he was 13! To make third team in the first quarter of a century team is pretty damn...

Re: 21st Century Teams

Demote Jenkins and Ogilvy ... promote Festus and either Byars or Taylor. Probably Taylor if we're giving bonus points for 4 years. If we're looking for places for Siakam, Dan Cage, or Corey Smith, I'm very okay with kicking off Damian Jones who was more talented, but had a wildly inconsistent motor....

Re: Next Season

Real simple here. This is a guards game. And we have guards. Three legit that we know of, and possibly more. We're gonna be solid. Our guards kept us winning after Liam went down. Now they have people around them that can shoot. Agreed. Obviously we will be better if we can get good production from...

Re: Stackhouse

It's laughable that anyone would put Stack in the top 10. We haven't reached the NCAA yet. I love Stack's intensity competitiveness etc. Admitting he has a learning curve and all, defend everything. But results matter and we need results in terms of NCAA and winning some games. More than enough tim...
