Re: Sewer pipe underneath Dudley Field?
Given the size and the route it is most likely a storm sewer pipe, not a sanitary sewer. Storm sewers are almost always larger than sanitary due to the wide differences in flow (relatively stable for sanitary, but a trickle up to 100-year flood for storm). This is likely the original underground aqu...

Re: Goodbye, South End Zone; should begin to be demolished this spring
Auburn has done a hybrid arrangement at Jordan-Hare Stadium. As part of the renovation of the main press box on the west side, they are adding 150 premium club seats. Coaches, national broadcast crews, radio crews, and some others will remain there. A second press box for some print and internet pre...

Re: AP photo of construction at Vanderbilt Stadium
Hardly anyone sat in the north end anyway. Edit: At least we have an archway for the north entrance. The final design appears to have only a few rows in the north end, one for ADA of course. There will be a walkway connection to Memorial plus access to ADA-compliant restrooms. Probably a small conc...

Yeah, meant to type 28th. A roundabout would probably include Vanderbilt Place as well.AuricGoldfinger wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 7:40 amThat's 28th and Natchez Trace, I believe.Versus75 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 10:35 pmPerry Wallace Way?VandyfanKY wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 10:33 pm This also simplifies a future roundabout at Natchez Trace and 25th that could allow a western stadium expansion in the future.

Re: Jess Neely Drive to close permanently next week to vehicular traffic
This is a milestone. Recall that Populus engineers detected a power deficiency that required a new substation on 25th near the existing indoor practice field. A new underground trench and conduit will carry that power to the Vandy United projects. Removing vehicular through traffic will enhance pede...

Re: New renderings released of Vandy United renovated FirstBank Stadium south end zone
The north end needs to be complete (including visitor locker room, ADA seating and restrooms, officials' locker room, etc.), before we can tear down the south end. Is the team's locker room (recently renovated) going to move over to the stadium or will it stay in McGugin? According to the Vandy Uni...

Re: New renderings released of Vandy United renovated FirstBank Stadium south end zone
I've been hoping for more of an update on the construction schedule. It's been a while since I have heard anything about when the most visible work is going to begin. It's been my understanding that demolition of the south end zone was scheduled to begin following this season, but it's been cricket...

And the capacity is only 60,000. The existing stadium only lasted 30 years. Wow.
Would VU look at the new stadium as an option for big-draw games? Maybe, but I have to wonder how many of our future games will draw much more than 35K.

Re: If you can believe it….
So what should/could be done with the Dud??? The end zone renovations will bring a lot, including twin video boards (similar to the new soccer stadium), improved power, lighting, communications, and cell phone coverage as well as some very attractive seating. Unfortunately, those improvements will ...

Re: OT: Northwestern to demolish Ryan Field, build new (and smaller) $800 million facility
If my math is correct, that's $22,850 per seat. Unreal. The lower capacity makes sense; last year only their Iowa game exceeded that 35k threshold. Boutique stadiums are the future.charlestonalum wrote: ↑Wed Sep 28, 2022 7:06 pm I like the 35k cap on attendance. I don't like the pricetag. Huge waste of money.

Re: Women softball program
The last time it was asked, the response was there was no where on campus to build a softball stadium. The only remaining land is the large surface parking used by employees during the week plus football parking in the fall. A softball field with proper seating will require about 90,000 square feet...

"Lift Every Voice and Sing" is a hymn. It has been in the United Methodist Hymnal for years. Never heard any controversy until recently. We could open the football season with Bobby Bare's "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through the Goalposts of Life." Heck, Iowa, Nebraska, and other schools...

Re: Well, at least we aren't playing at GEODIS Park
The final design of the MLS stadium had first row seats at field level: great for soccer but not football due to the teams being on the sidelines. (Soccer teams have seats and share the same side of the field.) We would have had a couple of thousand very poor seats as a result. Also, The standing-on...

Re: OT Sorta New Stadium
Most stadiums are a combination of steel and concrete, although FAU used aluminum rather than steel. Concrete is strongest when in compression (foundation, sidewalk, etc.) That is, it can hold a heavy static load without failing. When in tension (pulled from each end) it breaks apart. Steel, by cont...

Re: 2022 football season tickets
I'm thinking this means we won't see any construction on the South End Zone until the end of the 2022 season at the earliest. Correct. The proposed electric substation (to be located on 25th Ave in the narrow vacant lot by the "original" enclosed practice facility) seems to be part of the...

Re: More from AD Lee about the new facilities plan
Dr. Lee mentioned two priority issues that have impacted the timeline. First is that asbestos has been detected in the Palmer Field House that will require a very detailed and controlled razing of that building. (Takes time, permitting, and inspections.) Second is the need for a new electric power s...

Re: New facility plans and renderings released
Is the old Parmer Field House still there? And would this mean tearing it down? I would assume so. I remember when the locker room was there. Still there and likely first thing to go. The visitors' football locker room would logically be on the ground floor of the basketball practice facility, alon...
