Re: Inherited Rosters in 2011, 2014 & 2021

Poached or not, Mason inherited a much better roster than he left Lea with years later. The quoted figures are an indictment of Mason.

Re: CCL and the Portal

After all of the transfers and non-returning opt outs that we lost, I fully expected CCL to be active in the transfer portal and was shocked when he wasn't. I'm glad that he learned his lesson but disturbed that he had to learn it.

Re: Uh, Stanford beat No. 3, previously undefeated Oregon

It puts things in perspective by showing that you can get a wide range of results from a given team on a given Saturday. Stanford was lousy in its opener and 180 degrees different against Oregon. That gives us hope that some team plays its worst game of the year against us. Stanford's tying drive wa...

Re: Taking a poll: Will Vandy win another game? Why or why not?

40 percent chance of a win was my thought before I started reading the thread. Everyone seems to assess this similarly. A bad game by SC or MO combined with a very good one by us would translate to a win. There's even a small chance that one of the other teams melts down completely. What kind of sta...

Re: "Ultraconservative play-calling... ineptitude, lack of adjustments, suicidal tendencies..."

If FLA got a procedure penalty before every first down and had 1st and 15 every series of downs, they would still score 40 on us.

Yup. Someone who doesn't even know about the MTSU loss in 2005.

They were falling over themselves to manipulate angles of the crowd on TV that would exaggerate how many people were actually there.

I thought it could have been called either way, as the CT guy was interfering immediately before the push off.

Re: A MUST Win

At the end of the year, the season will be defined not by this game but what happens in the seven SEC games to come. If we are competitive and even pull one upset, there will be optimism; if we are consistently blown out, there will not. The UConn game will be history.

Re: Tennessean asks: Why has Ken Seals regressed as a sophomore?

Some on this board complained that too many of our plays were deep passes or were passes to wideouts. I'm no expert here. I think the answer, in the tradition of CJF, is to go with what's working until it's not working and then try something else. In the CSU game, the short passing game started wor...

Re: Tennessean asks: Why has Ken Seals regressed as a sophomore?

Indeed, the fact that the defense knows exactly what's coming isn't helping Seals. We shall see this week how often we throw bullet passes on slants with defenders hanging over the receiver 3 yards in front of the sticks.

Re: Athletes as employees

I'd like to see how many of these 19 year olds, who don't know a 1040 or 1099 from a miniature schnauzer, will be paying income and self employment taxes on what they get through NIL. They'll just ignore those 1099s that are issued to them as independent contractors.

It's really shocking how slow the execution on these plays is. You can't tell me that it is because we only have three star recruits when our opponents' have four.

Re: Zemek: Vanderbilt and Clark Lea get a “come to Jesus” moment

I think there has got to be a way other than Bobby Johnson's long road to a short lived mediocrity, which featured conventional schemes and a slow improvement of personnel. I fear that's what CLL may have in mind.

Re: The state of college athletics is a bad combo for Vanderbilt Football

Here's a not far fetched hypothetical: our current 12 game conference losing streak extends to 27 by the end of next year, as we try, not entirely successfully, to close the personnel gap. What then? I'm not sure at what point futility and multi-season conference losing streaks will become a breakin...

Re: Reality Check

If we are 59th and there are (I believe) 130 FBS teams, would we be likely to beat 71 FBS teams at the moment? If not, does it have something to do with coaching?
