Re: Must Read - AD's

I’m just a wee bit older than you Alath and began developing a passion for CFB as a middle-schooler in the 70’s. And while I agree with you CFB was by no means “pure”, I still think at that time and at least into the 90’s, it was more fun and more distinct from professional FB than it is today.

Re: Some random ruminations on Vandy and the new conference landscape

There have been numerous discussions on this board over the years on conference shifts and "should we stay or should we go" with regards to to VU in the SEC but what's underway now may really be "the big one" by the time it's over. Consider what has happened in the last year. Tex...

Re: OT: USC and UCLA planning to leave for the Big Ten as soon as 2024

I’ve had perhaps an unhealthy interest in conference realignment for years. While I was surprised when the upcoming moves of Texas and OK to the SEC was announced, the move isn’t really a shocker. This one is. The B1G has just killed the Rose Bowl in everything but name and stabbed a long time confe...

Capping the LBs at three leaves off some very deserving players. A lot of very good ones.

Regarding RPI, anyone know why Dallas Baptist (9-6 in the MVC) is so high? Nolan has them #3.

Re: OT:Dreamland BBQ in Huntsville Ala.

As Seadog pointed out, the original is in Tuscaloosa and has long been a favorite of many Tide fans. Interesting that a VU flag is prominent in the Huntsville. FWIW, I find there bbq to be below average by Alabama standards though I have never been to the Tuscaloosa location. Even more OT, but this ...

Re: Off-season topic for debate: would switching conferences have made VU football more successful?

I’ll play. I’m in the group that wishes we were in the ACC. And with the looming additions of Texas and Oklahoma, I would still welcome a chance to join although I don’t see a scenario where that could possibly happen. As far as athletic success, I don’t think it would have made a big difference, bu...

Re: What do you think now about bowl opt-outs?

I may be naive and old-fashioned, but I’d like to think the chance to win a NY6 bowl still has some meaning. The TaxAct Bowl may be another matter.

Re: What do you think now about bowl opt-outs?

Good thread. While I wasn’t exactly a fan of Korral, I do hope reports of a bad sprain only are true. To 1970’s point, I hate to see star players opt out of NY6 bowls as happened in the Peach Bowl. That was arguably the biggest game Pitt has played in years but the playoff has made it a “don’t care”...

Re: OT: A&M withdraws from Gator Bowl

I don’t want to dismiss the COVID aspect, but it is somewhat pathetic that the “Home of the 12th Man” would include injuries, opt-outs, transfers, etc. in the reasons for backing out.

Re: Bryce Young

He’s not undeserving, but what I think is unfortunately true is that the Heisman has regressed to being an award for the perceived best player on a top 5 team. Pickett and Korral led teams no one was expecting to NY 6 bowls. From my perspective, they are more representative of who the award should b...

Had a similar thought. Only CCL knows if he already has his dream job. I remain cautiously optimistic good things may be ahead though it still may not be obvious next year.

Re: Random ruminations on the season that was (long)

Very good analysis Auric, though I would rebut one point. I agree with your assessment that long sustained drives can help us shorten games and be more competitive. However, I don’t agree with the comparison to Wake at all. Wake plays a very up tempo style which is quite effective and fun to watch b...

Re: Report: Brian Kelly to LSU

The more I digest this, the more bizarre it seems. Notre Dame is a not implausible Houston upset of Cincy away from being in the thick of the discussion for the 4th spot of the CFB. Maybe Riley wants an ex-SEC job where one can win and Kelly wants a shot at the SEC. If so, they could have simply swi...

Re: Mason to Florida? (idle rumor on a lazy day)

The last two games of 2016 were probably Mason’s finest moment. We whipped a decent Ole Miss team and then knocked UT out of the Sugar Bowl with the 11 point win. That was the death knell for Butch Jones at UT and UT still hasn’t fully recovered from the loss. Miss St. has “bowl jumped” us several t...
