Re: Wright

Another credit to the coach: when he was recruited, Wright was widely dismissed as just a warm body. But he has turned out to be a valuable player in many ways. I think he has a good feel for the game. He often seems to pick up a bucket or a rebound or a turnover at a pivotal moment. He is perhaps n...

Re: Next season's "perfect storm"

Re, Stanford and Colorado State: got to stop this stuff. Part of the xCJF formula was scheduling very winnable OOC games. I think this often comes down to $. Play Notre Dame and collect a paycheck. Play a directional school and write a paycheck. Admin has to consider this an investment in the progra...

Re: Next season's "perfect storm"

The most interesting thing is the potential for a decent offensive line, which is almost always at the heart of our deficiencies. There is also good talent and depth on the D-line. Maybe no breakout stars, but easily two deep with quality SEC caliber players. There some other positions on the roste...

Me too. He's been a good source of info and analysis. Seems like a guy who thinks things through.

This is the kind of game it would have been easy to phone in and tune out.
Cred to the team for playing all-out under what could have been demoralizing circumstances.

Re: depth chart?

You've still got VU playing a 3-4 defense. I haven't really looked at it in depth but I had the idea Lea frequently plays 4 DL, 2 LB, and 5 DB - or maybe 4 DB and one 'hybrid' LB/DB. I'm surprised you've got Kaufman at a #2 spot. Until he got hurt he was playing great - and I already had him tagged ...

Re: advice to those.....

Too bad that conservatives don't get mulligans these days. Nonsense. Conservatives get unlimited mulligans from other conservatives and liberals get unlimited mulligans from other liberals. Nobody gets any mulligans from the other side. And both sides have a persecution complex - although lately on...

Re: stream of consciousness for a Sunday morning

Of course the W-L record sucks but you just can't follow yesterday's game against the #8 team in the country in their gym that goes down to the wire and come away saying this is a bad team.

Re: Freshmen

When you talk about the freshmen it naturally becomes a next season discussion. My idle speculations: Next season hinges hugely on 1) whether Disu and Pippen are still here 2) whether we can get some presence in the paint, somewhat on offense and definitely on defense. There are lots of wing players...

Stackhouse on his controversial comments

Key part: "I think when you watch that quote, it was talking about what happened when we got here, the diversity of the staff. In no way was it toward any of our fans, because none of them were even — I didn't get that type of response when I was hired. It was from the Jeff Goodmans and those type o...

Re: Clevon.........he's back

He's struggled with injury and illness all season.
It would be great if he's returning to form.
With healthy Clevon and lights on Max we could see a bit of an upswing here in the late part of the season.

Re: I’m conflicted

I have not read or heard the comments Stackhouse made, but I did hear him praise our team that "ignored all the noise" and I enjoyed our well-coached and played game. Maybe we all should ignore those who want to divide us. Perhaps read (free article) and then comment: https://brobible.com/sports/ar...

Re: Last statement about Stacks comment

Joe Rexrode did the interview and wrote the article. This is what Rexrode said: "I definitely did not take it as attacking fans. ... I took it as critics in general, some of whom are racists." Re Trump: I don't think he's a white supremacist per se. He's a Trump supremacist. Everyone else is a lower...

Re: Who shows improvement

I think they all show improvement. Stute can obviously shoot. I get the sense that opponents now realize he's a marksman and play him tight on the perimeter. If he doesn't drive past his man or make a great pass to an open teammate, they're going to cover him like a blanket out there. I've heard peo...

Looks like Pete Rossomando out...I thought he would stay.
I thought I'd heard that too.

Sorry to see him go. He put a very respectable product on the field last season despite some major setbacks.

Re: Some good news

It seems to be a debate whether:
1) Turner was a spendthrift and a dilettante who didn't know much about college athletics
2) Wente is violently opposed to anything athletic and ousted Turner for spite

I see no inherent contradiction between these two takes.
Not every fight has a good guy.

Re: When the Uh-Oh Light Goes On

This season is already doomed and I hope I'm wrong. This raises the question of what are reasonable expectations - what would we call success? Roster: should be good at QB. I do hope they keep looking for ways to keep Wright involved. The RBs looked pretty decent last year and we're adding a well r...

New game plan for Vanderbilt MBB

"Ok, Scortie and Dylan: you go out and be your usual selves. Max, you be superman." Max does so many other things well - it hurts when you have to sit him because you lose all the defense and rebounds and hoops IQ that he brings. But when he disappears on offense it's hard to leave him out there. Ju...

Stute on Anchor Down podcast

Enjoyed listening to Max's podcast as usual and came away impressed with Stute and maybe a bit more optimistic about the team. He was surprisingly upbeat. Asked about Stackhouse publicly criticizing him, he said "that lit a fire under me." He thinks they're just around the corner from winning some g...
