Re: Another victim of the SEC meatgrinder: Missouri coach fired
Steve Bieser did a decent job at Missouri, but it's a significantly underfunded program relative to its SEC brethren and he could never get over the hump despite showing promise at times this year. (As an example, I know Mizzou flew commercial on Southwest to Nashville for its series last year with...

Re: Miami, N.C. State, Virginia Tech, UNC
I didn't mind talks of the Big 10 before they added the west coast schools. That just seems like a logistical nightmare. I have a fond affinity for history and tradition of college sport rivalries, but change is always inevitable. I just prefer change that makes good sense.

Re: Some Tyrin news
Loyalty's great when it runs both ways. But when coaches can run off players as soon as they find someone they think is better, it's hard to blame the players for moving on when they find a better deal. And I'm not sure you can say "free education." Legit SEC athletes have rare talent, th...

Re: Our Chancellor gets it
This guy is easily the best Chancellor I've experienced from messaging and understanding the landscape around him. He is spot on regarding athletics and he is spot on with regards to ideological neutrality in education. With time he could be regarded as our best ever. He is refreshing. I haven't fo...

Re: Aerial stadium photos
Pretty stinkin' cool to see. It would've been great for this to have happened ten years ago before the NIL arms race, but I'll take it (and I also suspect that this has all been in the works for years as the time from announcement to shovels in the ground was pretty quick considering planning, permi...

Re: Hunter Dickinson and NIL
Eh. I guess. I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at VU. Did pretty well re: accrued debt, relatively speaking. I’ve been a public school teacher my entire career (midpoint right now). I could make more money doing many other things, even within the education sector. I’m where I am beca...

Re: Hunter Dickinson and NIL
But I thought the recruiting process could not include an offer of NIL money. Perhaps Self was allowed to say: “So and So made this much. What’s His Name made that much. I can’t PROMISE you anything.” And now, do the people paying him “less than six figures” cut him off? I hope so. I'm sure he (or ...

Re: Tyrin Lawrence
The school can't use its endowment to pay NIL money to players so that idea is out. Secondly, having great NIL options doesn't mean you are going to be great at evaluating who should receive that NIL money. So there are legitimate reasons well-moneyed programs won't always make the tournament. My pe...

If we get another kid from the state of Oklahoma as the Sooners are making their entry into the conference that will really rankle them.

Re: Commitment (Class of 2025): Caden Knighten, 5-10 175 RB Wynnewood, OK
I know you don't recruit 'em just to lose 'em, and I hope ( and believe) we will hang on. But as i've said before - having a high profile recruit in the fold for 2 years is valuable even if he ultimately leaves. It gets other recruits excited, creates interest among analysts, builds momentum etc. T...

I can't name any schools, but I feel confident that we're probably not the only school in this situation given the craziness out there.

Hunter Dickinson and NIL
I just read on ESPN that he hinted that NIL was a factor in his decision to leave Michigan. Sounds like he was getting less than six figures annually from NIL. If hw is able to secure $200K a year playing at Kansas, I would basically say he would be making a mistake not to leave. That's really good ...

Re: The cycle of panic on Vandymania
I agree with those who say we will be well-coached. The evidence of how good a coach is, is how well his team is playing at the end of the season. Everyone is bringing in new pieces every year (now more than ever) and if you've got them playing well by the end of the year, that shows you're a good c...

Definitely NIL related then. They're handing out the dollars like lollipops down there.

Re: Wow! Alabama fires Brad Bohannon
One of those Twitter replies by someone who claims to know more about the case said the payoff was $8k - $10k. If so, the bet would have been $20k-$25k on a game that normally has very little action. Another referenced the video evidence, suggesting the cameras at the betting site picked up Bohanno...

Re: Wow! Alabama fires Brad Bohannon
Reading about a rumored $150,000 bet. Supposedly, not related to any player..... As a side question to those of you who place legal bets, (which i do sometimes but usually for about $10 - $25, does the book have any way not to pay on the bet? Oh yeah, the book would definitely void action on that b...

Re: Wow! Alabama fires Brad Bohannon
I'm a proponent of legalized sports betting, but it can be rife with lots of problems. But this type of integrity isn't going to be one though. The monitoring systems are sophisticated and they use big data to understand what a range of a bet for a particular event should be. You can't sneak in a &q...

And they really stunk up the joint last week when they only dropped us one spot when we got swept by an unranked UT team when we also went 0-4 for the week (sarcasm alert).
I think we ought not complain all that much.
