Re: Vandy is 2-and-oh, people! Where is the love?
I know it is “coach speak” to say the next game is the biggest game of the season, but it really is in this case. Win or lose, it can set the tone and expectations going forward. A win, and the expectations of starting 4-0 go way up. A close, competitive loss will cause most to scan the schedule for...

If it should climb to 14.5 or more, I’ll take VU to cover.

Re: We open as a dog
It seems a little small to be honest. WF was the #22 team in preseason rankings and they won game 1 convincingly. I would much prefer they were a 19 point favorite to breed some overconfidence in their squad.

Re: OT: 16 (Sixteen!) games tonight
...Purdue could give the Nittany Lions a rough start to the season. ...and yet, they decide to give PSU the W. Indeed they did. The OC (or whoever was calling plays) should be unemployed today. That was a terrible display of game management in the final 6 minutes. Purdue needed first downs and fiel...

Re: OT: 16 (Sixteen!) games tonight
It's good to see the Backyard Brawl (Pitt vs. WVU) back again, and the PSU at Purdue game should be pretty interesting. Purdue could give the Nittany Lions a rough start to the season.

Re: Wake game crowd
There is this - at least the stadium will be all black and gold! No opposing team colors to drown out VU colors. Maybe this should enter into scheduling choices. OOC opponents Alabama State, Appalachian State, Southern Miss, and Purdue or Wake Forest moving forward? At least the game-day visuals wo...

Re: Thoughts on Vandy's record-setting opening WIN over Hawaii
Improvement is improvement, and all Vanderbilt fans should feel encouraged. But it still only counts as one win, and it was a game that Vandy should win. The next game should also be a win, equaling last season's win total in two chances. The real test will be to not go 0-10 after Elon. As much as I...

Re: The 'Hawaii Exemption'
Maybe VU determined that an extra bye week would be more beneficial to the team than a 13th game or the revenue from it. It does seem to me that it would have been a better plan to schedule another game, but maybe they tried and nobody was available or willing.

Re: A successful season (I keep hearing this debated)
... Winning all 4 OOC games plus 1 SEC game would be a great basis for enthusiasm going into next year. Yes it certainly would. And also a very successful season on its own, compared to recent years. Given their records last year, NIU on the road and Wake at home are not cupcakes. After ETSU last y...

Re: A successful season (I keep hearing this debated)
I missed the deadline for the season prediction contest, but I would have chosen 3 wins as that answer. That would be an improvement, but far from a successful season on the face of it. However, if some of the stronger teams on the schedule had to really work for their wins, that could be a form or ...

Re: This looks like the future…
When your school (SMU) is ranked 68th in the US News rankings of national universities -- far behind two in-state rivals (Rice, Texas) and tied with a third (Texas A&M) -- some alumni WILL focus on athletic success to puff out their chests. Vanderbilt may be known as a cellar dweller in its lea...

Re: This looks like the future…
It is more the present than the future. Schools that have alumni that care to see their former school rise in the ranks of athletic success will step forward to do the same as SMU and others. It will also go beyond the alumni and sink into the consciousness of the business community in which those ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfqj82WOXNU I think you'll enjoy this! ;-) I was at that game. At one point after we'd run it down the field, a bama fan stood up and said "yall can't do that, you are a passing team. you can't run it on us." I said "looks like we can." He just gr...

Re: Recruiting tidbits
Is there much of a possibility that VU could or would ever dip into the JUCO market for experienced players? I would assume it is unlikely due to academics, but I don't guess it would be impossible.
