Re: A "Real" View of SEC FB Market Attendance

That is also why we have better than expected attendance at bowl games. Those that live in Texas, for example, may not be able to go to regular season games, but will spring for a mini vacation to see a bowl game. Bowl committees have not figured that out yet. Great point. With the exception of Cin...

Re: DL Musings

One thing that 1845 Bear said is something we should remember. There are two versions of the 3-4, a one gap and a two gap. CDM has been a fan of the one-gap. I remember because I asked him to explain them the one time I met him, before he ever coached a game for us. He did not have time to explain ...

Re: DL Musings

Baylor fan here with an outside opinion with some X’s and O’s in it too. 1- You run a 3-4 but it’s usually some form of an “Under” front which is basically a one-gap scheme like a four man front would be. Usually Dare O was playing alignments like a 4-3 tackle and Dayo was playing like a strong sid...

Re: We're really gonna miss Bruno Reagan

Reagan is a huge loss. I think he's gonna make an NFL roster because of his ability to play well at center or guard. We do need a serious influx of talent. As an opponent I saw him as the fourth best player on the Vandy O behind Vaughn, Pinkney, and Shurmur. Maybe 5th behind Lipscomb. I’ll be curio...

Re: Chris Low says VU has contacted Tee Martin

I really don't know what kind of system(s) Martin has used. Was USC a pro-set team only or did they run some spread? Tee would be a great get for recruiting. We need his Southern California connections. He blended the two. Pro with spread elements. He struggled with the Pac12 south despite having U...

Re: New OC Candidates

Were not getting an Air Raid or spread offense , not sure why Vandy fans keep thinking that is going to happen. Nothing is impossible but it would be completely out of character for Mason. Ludwig ran a spread offense his first stint at Utah but Mason didn't let him run that. So much of this decisio...

Unless you can land a big time OC I think promoting from within might be the best bet.

Re: Confirmed: Andy Ludwig going back to Utah

Canada was a bust as OC at LSU and I think he would be even worse here. Having said that, Mason will probably hire him. I like the names on Divergent's list. Fedora would be a great hire. Canada was good before and after LSU. His issues there had more to do with a micromanaging HC trying to yank aw...

Re: Did this year prove we don't need an extended playoff system?

What's interesting is that the playoffs have existed for 5 years now, and the #1 seed has failed to win all 5 times. Twice the team didn't even make the finals. Does that mean the committee has a hard time figuring out who the #1 seed really should be? #4 has won twice #1 has never won. Settle it o...

Re: Alabama beaten down

Same story as Ohio State vs Purdue

Yards pretty even.

Red zone domination makes it not matter.

Bama points per trip? 2.5 (10 points)
Clemson? 6.2 (31 points)

Ballgame right there even before you consider two turnovers (including pick six)

Re: Any Staff Changes?

Question- How many big time recruits did Stanford sign when he was an assistant there? As an outsider here that is the first question that jumps out to me. It may be an “identify our kind of guys and develop them” philosophy. I don’t care what star rating they have if they fit their role in a scheme.

Re: Did this year prove we don't need an extended playoff system?

Why is there a desire to move to 8? Michigan finished in the top 8 of the BCS but they had no business being in the playoffs. The SEC title game this year would have been meaningless if we had 8 teams. Since we went to 4, most of the semi-final games have been blowouts. That would only be exacerbat...

16 teams is way too many. The 16th seed would win the title a couple of times per century. An 8 team playoff ……… I could see a reasonable argument for that, but not enough to sway me. I say keep it at 4.
Move to 8.

16 is too many.
4 is too few most years.

Re: Did this year prove we don't need an extended playoff system?

Exactly. A longer playoff system favors the teams with deep depth charts and guess who those teams are . LOL How many other schools in D-1 have the caliber of a Tua Tagovailoa sitting on the bench as a backup like last year. Maybe teams in the Top 4 but definitely not teams in a 16 team playoff. It...

Re: Did this year prove we don't need an extended playoff system?

Good post AD1. Absolutely. Prior to the playoff system, the rub was "well how do we really know who is number 1?". This year proved again that we didn't need any playoff bc #1 and #2 have been clear since the first week. A 4-team playoff should certainly always suffice to determine who is #1, absol...

Re: Did this year prove we don't need an extended playoff system?

One objection to expanding the playoffs is that it would give even more advantages to the elite programs than they already have. Their season would extend almost year round, because by the time the playoffs are over Spring practice would be just around the corner. They'd be getting potentially 3 mo...
