mini-update from Roanoke

Hello All: Thanks again for the outpouring of kindness during my cancer problems. Several have asked for updates - so I will provide a brief one, again with thanks for your interest and support. I have completed my chemo and radiation treatments. I know many people get quite ill from these treatment...

Re: Appears Saben Lee has signed with agent

I understand your point that Nesmith was part of a team that won 3 SEC games. But he did not spend one second on the court of an SEC win. He played one SEC game - a loss. And, of course, 0-19 the previous year. That stat is not his fault - or Garland’s. But both will be first rounders and neither of...

Re: Appears Saben Lee has signed with agent

Very disappointing news - but I do understand. He is what he is - and if he is a late second rounder, more power to him. And if he is not drafted, he can possibly make north of $300K playing somewhere in Europe or beyond next year. (p.s. I am guessing the agent gets a piece of that - which is why it...

Re: Colts express interest in Riley Neal

The thing about an o-line is it takes five guys. Against an SEC defense you are only as good as your weakest guy because that’s where the blitzes come. Note: Neal threw for 378 against Purdue. That might be the last time a d decided not to blitz us relentlessly. Once the book of blitz, stuff box, sm...

Re: Colts express interest in Riley Neal

I expressed this below in the Bolar thread and won’t fully repeat it here. Our offense was totally predictable last year. Commentators and opposing defenses knew what was coming before it came. They blanketed short stuff and brought blitzes because our qb had 1.5 seconds to throw most of the time. T...

Re: CJ Bolar enters the transfer portal

um.......Brent is right here. Cochran's departure is a staggering blow to the offense. Bolar hurts too... but Cochran was really good. And made those around him better. Again, at the risk of sounding like a broken record - an o-line cannot produce when the other team knows what is coming every play ...

2012, Stack, the new transfer mentality: and next year

I miss watching sports. I do not like watching old games where I know the outcome - unless it is in-season, watching what a team tends to do right or wrong.... One old game I did make myself watch during this lockdown was our 2012 win at the SEC tourney. What knocked me over - was the depth of that ...

There is serious talk of the 2020 amateur draft being cancelled by mlb

I guess the logic is the draft assigns players to go play in the summer - and if there are no leagues this summer... why shell out big money and hire players not to play? There are reports, anyway, that MLB and the union seem to be discussing this. The other cost saving feature is that it would mean...

next year's hoops squad

I have, as you know, been sick down the stretch of the basketball season. I still watched my share of games. It was hard to post optimistically as we struggled to a 3-13 SEC record and played woefully shorthanded. So I chose not to post at the time. But I am optimistic about Stack's future teams. He...

Thank you all for your prayers, concern, and very thoughtful posts. It does make me stronger. It reminds me how good and ...

Re: Thoughts about Vandy's QB situation

You are pretty kind to CDM here, Brent. And perhaps that is best. But I will pile on a little bit. 2014 was a tragic season - and we were loaded at qb. We just asked them to do ridiculous things - and punished them for not standing in the pocket and getting leveled. If we had used the talent we had ...

Re: All I'll say

There was very little margin for error with this team. It could not afford to lose Brown - let alone Brown and Nesmith. If Nesmith comes back next year, we will be good next year. We still will not be great without a big who can stand up in SEC play. Ironically, I think Stack was making good progres...

SEC/Big Ten Review

Pre-bowl season, there was a bit of a debate on whether the Big Ten hype was justified or not. Many talking heads suggested the Big Ten was a “gauntlet” and Ohio State’s navigation of the gauntlet justified a 1-seed. As it turned out: the Big Ten went 4-5 in bowls. Bowl games are not always indicati...

quietly, San Diego State

The Aztecs are undefeated, really good and Yanni Wetzel is showing out very nicely. Logging 25 minutes a game and double figure points for arguably one of the best teams in the country.

He was another very good player more or less wasted by the prior regime.

He clearly got hurt very late in the Liberty game.

Tried to play through it. Leg issue.

We really needed him tonight too.

my last comment on this -

Again, twisting. You said they had 10 wins over bowl teams. Count again. Nebraska is 5-7, Northwestern 3-9, Rutgers 2-10, Maryland 3-9. If 4 opponents are not bowl teams out of 13 games - they didn’t win 10 - no matter how many times you count Wisconsin. But my point is the big ten schedule itself w...

Re: Final four strength of schedule rankings

It's not blind allegiance. The SEC schedule LSU played was much harder than the Big Ten schedule that OSU played. Accept it. OSU was not challenged all year until the championship game they yawned through (after whipping Wisconsin 38-7 the first game - a game i watched and was left totally underwhel...
