Challenges for Georgia
Ball State opened its 2023 season on Saturday, falling 44-14 at Kentucky. The Cardinals led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter but for the remainder of the game were dominated by a strong Kentucky defense and potent Wildcat offense. Quarterback Kadin Semonza completed 15 of 21 passes for 165 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Running back Marquez Cooper ran for 36 yards on 15 carries to lead Ball State. Receiver Dane Key had five catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. Defensive back Jordan Riley led the Cardinals with five tackles, four of them solo stops. Ball State attempted one field goal that was blocked.
