LSU Football Three Keys: Texas A&M

LSU Three keys

This is a huge game for the 9-2 LSU Tigers as they ready for the SEC Championship Game next weekend.

By Steve Wright

In their way are the 4-7 Texas A&M Aggies, a team that is the most disappointing in college football this season.

Here are the three keys to an LSU victory:

1 – Run Jayden Daniels

As the starting quarterback, it is pretty obvious that Jayden Daniels would be the Tigers’ leading passer. What might not be so obvious is that Daniels is also the Tigers leading rusher. This is interesting for a couple of reasons, not least that Daniels has been surprisingly durable for a dual threat, given that he isn’t built as sturdily as some of his peers. Daniels has had to be the focal point of the running game because the LSU line is young, inexperienced, and lacking in the drive-blocking game at this point in its development. Keeping Daniels moving – to pass or run – is huge.

2 – Harold Perkins Takes Over

LSU probably isn’t as elite on defensive athletes as it has been in past years. The Tigers, however, do a great job of maximizing the potential of each player, giving them roles and responsibilities that they can work with. For Harold Perkins, that means causing havoc. Perkins has 7.5 sacks, ten tackles for a loss, 12 hurries, and two forced fumbles on the season. Perkins is fast and great at timing his jump, flying into the backfield to cause pressure. When the Aggies want to pass, Perkins has to be at his best.

3 – Get to 24 Points

The Aggies have been bad everywhere, but their offense has been a disaster. They have used three quarterbacks – true freshman Conner Wiegman is the likely starter here – and injuries have destroyed them at the skill positions. They have cleared 24 points just twice all season, and they are 96th in total yards and 94th in rushing yards. The Aggies aren’t going to clear 24 points here against an LSU team that does all the little things right, so LSU wins if it hits that magic number.
