Wright’s Renegade SEC Football Picks

Wright's Renegade SEC Picks

Another week 6-1 week means I like how these picks are going for once this season. Let’s try to hit that again in Week 7.

By Steve Wright

Week Results: 6-1

Closest Pick: Georgia 38, Auburn 14. The Actual was Georgia 42, Auburn 10. This one just made sense. Georgia needed a big win, and Auburn just isn’t very good this year.

Worst Pick: Kentucky 28, South Carolina 24. The actual was South Carolina 24, Kentucky 14. In fairness, I had no idea Will Levis wasn’t going to play. If I had, then this prediction would have been different.

Season Results: 53-9 (85.4%). Last week was 85.5%

Byes this week: Texas A&M, South Carolina, Mizzou

Auburn @ (9) Ole Miss – Auburn hasn’t scored more than 17 points in a month. Ole Miss can score that many points in 10 minutes of possession. Ole Miss 35, Auburn 10.

Vandy @ (1) Georgia – Vandy is still better than you think, but this is a horrible matchup for the ‘Dores. The Bulldogs beat Auburn by 32 while looking far from perfect, but they rushed for almost 300 yards in their best showing on the ground for 12 months. I don’t think Georgia hits to 38.5 they are being given, but they still roll here. Georgia 42, Vandy 14.

(3) Alabama @ (6) Tennessee – The Third Saturday in October hasn’t mattered like this in decades. Tennessee has everything it needs to beat Alabama, and the Vols are white-hot. Alabama doesn’t look like ‘Bama – both the Longhorns and Aggies could have (should have) beaten them – but they continue to get it done. Can Saba pull out another one? Tennessee 38, Alabama 34.

Arkansas @ BYU – Weird spot for a non-con game, especially somewhere as tough as BYU. Arkansas can win this if they turn it into a shootout and if KJ Jefferson plays. The altitude will be a factor, but I think Arkansas is better than its record shows after three frustrating defeats. Arkansas 35, BYU 28.

LSU @ Florida – Florida’s running game is about to give LSU a big problem. The Tigers aren’t explosive enough on offense, and I don’t think they can make Florida beat them through the air (which is the key to taking down the Gators). Florida 31, LSU 21.

(16) Mississippi State @ (22) Kentucky – Will Rogers is playing at a Heisman level, and much of this game will come down to if Kentucky quarterback Will Levis (foot) can play and be effective. The Bulldogs will have to win a grinder – something they aren’t known for – to take down the dogged Wildcats. Mississippi State 30, Kentucky 21.
