Player Evaluation: Auburn commit Terrance Love

Auburn Recruiting Update

Bryan Harsin has pulled in another recruit with the news that 4-star safety Terrance Love has committed to the Auburn Tigers’ class of 2023.

Terrance Love – a 6-foot-3, 195-pound safety out of Langston Hughes (Fairburn, GA) High School – is a big get for Harsin. Any time that an SEC program can cross state lines to get a pledge from a 3-star or higher player it is a big deal.

Love is Auburn’s second commitment of the class of 2023. He picked Auburn offers from the entire SEC, along with out-of-region schools such as Oregon and Michigan. According to the 247Sports Composite, Love is the No. 182 player in the class, the No. 16 safety, and the No. 17 player in the state of Georgia.

The sheer size of Love makes him an interesting prospect coming out of high school. He is tall for a safety – even in the modern game – so he might well be asked to add some weight and play a hybrid safety/linebacker role for the Tigers.

In the video below you can see signs of how that transition would work. Love knows how to use his size to full effect when hitting a ball carrier. He has outstanding play recognition and gets to the point of contact quickly. If he adds another 20/30 pounds then he will be a monster no matter what level of defense he is asked to play.

The first play of the video is simply reacting to an overthrow. The second play, however, is much more interesting. Love uses his mass and frame to basically make sure there is no way that this pass will be complete. It is a pass the quarterback should never, ever throw, but Love is in the perfect position to make an interception. Later plays show how Love can hit and the force he brings to the table and this versatile athlete is going to make a big impact in Auburn colors.
