Vanderbilt basketball player Matthew Moyer, a 6’8” forward who transferred from Syracuse, has received NCAA approval, waiving his required year of residency and will be eligible immediately to compete for the Commodores.

Moyer transferred to Vanderbilt in the summer of 2018 after playing one season with Syracuse, and he has three years of eligibility with the Commodores. In 37 total games at Syracuse, Moyer averaged 3.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.9 minutes per game.
“The NCAA has a process for reviewing these requests and we are thankful that they have allowed Matt to play immediately,” said Vanderbilt head coach Bryce Drew. “We are also thankful for all of the time spent by our compliance office during this process.”
Moyer, from Gahanna, Ohio, played at South Kent Prep in Kent, Connecticut before his arrival at Syracuse and was named the Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year while helping the Cardinals to a 20-10 overall record and the semifinals of the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AAA tournament. He was a first-team NEPSAC Class AAA selection and was ranked the 74th-best prospect according to ESPN, 71st by Scout.com, and 40th by Rivals.com in the spring of 2016.
