Missouri defensive end commit Shemar Pearl a game changer

Missouri Recruiting Update

Missouri picked up a big – literally – recruit in June as it filtered through that DE Shemar Pearl has committed to the Missouri Tigers for the second time. Pearl – out of Plano West (Texas) High School – originally committed to the Tigers as part of their class of 2019.

Academics then forced the pass rusher to go down the JuCo route and his pledge to be part of the Missouri 2021 class will come after two years of playing football at Garden City (Kansas) Community College.

2021 Missouri Football Commit List

Pearl was a 3-star prospect originally when coming out of high school. The bulk he added to his frame – Pearl is 6-foot-6 and weighs 240 pounds – plus his higher-level experience will make him a valuable part of this class. In his one year of play in the JuCo ranks so far, Pearl made 22 tackles in 11 games, with a pair of sacks, seven tackles for loss, and four pass breakups. These are numbers that will increase next year, but it is clear that Pearl does the vast majority of his damage behind the line of scrimmage.

Shemar Pearl Scouting Report

The video below shows us what Pearl is all about. His first sack – the first play of the video – shows that even when he doesn’t get a quick break on the ball he can still be effective. The combination of his speed and agility to dip inside the retreating offensive lineman prove to be too much for the offensive tackle to handle as he picks up a sack.

One aspect of Shemar Pearl’s game that coaches like is his ability to slide down the line and make plays when he was originally blocked out of the action. There are a number of such clips in this film, plays that won’t make it into the box score as they are stops for no gain or a couple of yards, but plays that will make a big difference in determining the outcome of a game.
