Sounds to me like a couple of those early 100 pitch games ruined them. Once hurt, it is really hard to get a pitcher back to normal in a short time.

Oh, and welcome back Don. We missed you!

Regardless of who pitches, it takes more than 4-5 hits and 1-2 runs to win a normal baseball game.

In its last SEC games, Vanderbilt has scored 2, 4, 1, 0, 2 and 2 runs. Obviously the only one we won was the one in which we scored more than 2 runs.

I know the schedule has gotten tougher, but it is amazing to consider that this SAME TEAM scored, in its first 12 SEC games, 26, 18, 11, 9, 16, 4, 7, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 6 runs.

Just not the same team since the series at UT.

Patrick Reilly listed as probable starter for game 1 and Devin Futrell for game 2. Game 3 is listed as TBA.

Remember when- this is probably not the right time for levity, or maybe- CTC used to list pitchers' names as leadoff (or cleanup?) hitters? Those were carefree days when we all were young and full of vim & vigor.

Corbin would put a pitcher in the lineup as the DH then pinch hit for him when he would first come to bat wherever the DH was listed in the order. This, on the off chance that the opposing team would have changed their pitcher or there was some other situation that would call for a different player than the DH Corbin originally intended.

Correct, and he can't do it anymore because the rules were changed a couple years ago to prevent it.

I wonder if it ever worked. That is, was there ever a surprise pitching change by the opponent that led Corbs to opt for a different DH than planned :?:

Injuries suck. Hopefully Owen is at least ready for postseason and one or two guys step up this weekend.

What’s the status of tonight’s game, read that rain might be in the offing. Given our injuries a (very) slow moving weather front may be what we need.

Rain and thunderstorms in the area as we speak.

The worst thing would be to start the game, and then get into a lengthy rain delay early on--wasting a starting pitcher.

Unless the starter gets off to a bad start. *sigh*

I did not know that there was a rule change. I also wonder if Corbin ever took advantage of his strategic quirk to opt for a different DH.

If a pitcher is 50/50 during midweek, and the reason he is not 100 has to do with his arm, he should not pitch on the weekend. IMHO
