Most satisfying win I’ve watched all year. When someone has a clear and definitive understanding of the bizarre double play in the 6th, please explain.

That's the only kind of situation I can figure. Did the 2nd base ump signal a catch for an out in CF or not? I don't know. That needs to be determined to understand what the runners did and why. Crazy play with no explanation...kinda chickenshit by the umps and the league office.
I was unaware that SEC baseball officials were eligible for NIL.

We sit in 1st row in center field and Stone hit the wall hard right in front of us. Gutsy play to catch it off the wall and get it back into infield. They never really explained to the crowd what happened. Glad to see VandyBoys bounce back and win a big game. Hope to see them win the series tomorrow.

Could you see if the ball hit the fence or not?

Good to see the bullpen pick up Holton. Rubber match tomorrow.

It looked like it did hit the wall

Thanks for up-close insight. It looked like it hit the fence on TV too.

On the quickly shown, fuzzy replay from LF to resume the telecast in bottom 6th, the 2nd & 3rd base umps didn't look to leave their spots or make a call on the fly ball. The 1st base ump appeared to run into the outfield but ran from view before he made any call. Clearly the hitter and the runners on 1st & 2nd were not aware of a safe call on the play at the fence. Sounds like they called Austin out for passing the runner and Schrek on a force at 3rd. Poorly officiated, though to fair, it was a really bizarre play.
Very poorly officiated. Austin was out the second he passed Bulger which made first base vacant. With open bases behind them there could be no force outs on Shrek or Bulger. Vandy should have still been batting with 2 outs and 2 runners on.

It was umpiring malpractice for several reasons, including lack of a “safe” call that would have informed the runners of the situation immediately after the centerfielder failed to make the catch. The lack of a timely call on that play is no more excusable than failing to make a call of a force out at first base on a typical infield ground ball (and instead waiting to seee what a video replay shows).

Carter got 7 outs, Reilly 12, about what you would hope or expect to get from them, setting up Maldo the Elder to get the last 6 outs. Carter & Reilly are the game MVPs regardless how this turns out.
LOL. You're not sorry. But you are absolutely 100% correct. The backup guys yesterday were lights out. Just like the backup guys on Friday were absolutely 100% awful. I hope today we don't have to rely on our backup guys (depth). I hope we get 7 or 8 masterful innings from Futrell and run-rule the Cocks by the 8th, or at least have a 7 or 8 run lead that even I could hold throwing underhanded.

 You're right. And I couldn't agree with you more, Geez. Another "Pitcher of the Week" award for Futrell in a 7-inning complete game would be perfect.
