Hard-luck Keyon Henry-Brooks

Post by BrentVU »

Keyon Henry-Brooks was the best running back on the 2020 Commodore team, and saw his coach get fired after the team failed to win a single game. He announced in February that he was entering the transfer portal, then waited until July to announce that he was heading for Louisiana Tech. He barely played this season, and now for the second season in a row, his coach (Skip Holtz) has been fired. (Holtz will coach Saturday's final game for the 3-8 Bulldogs.)

Did I miss something? Do we get to vote on which players to accept as fans? If so, I do want him back because I thought he was a good RB that could help the team. I don't think he wants Vandy back though.

The Oedipus reference is puzzling since Oedipus married his mother. Do you mean Sisyphus, condemned to push a rock up a slope only to slip, fall and have to start over eternally?

Louisiana Tech and Skip Holtz had a series of six winning seasons and bowl games in a row, ending with 2019-- after which he lost offensive coordinator Todd Fitch to Vandy. Then, 5-5 in 2020, and 3-8 this year with one game left.

I know it is just Wikipedia, but -
Prior to the start of Oedipus Rex, Oedipus has become the king of Thebes while unwittingly fulfilling a prophecy that he would kill his father, Laius (the previous king), and marry his mother, Jocasta (whom Oedipus took as his queen after solving the riddle of the Sphinx). The action of Sophocles's play concerns Oedipus's search for the murderer of Laius in order to end a plague ravaging Thebes, unaware that the killer he is looking for is none other than himself. At the end of the play, after the truth finally comes to light, Jocasta hangs herself while Oedipus, horrified at his patricide and incest, proceeds to gouge out his own eyes in despair.

Not that it really matters, Oedipus is a tragic figure beset by fate regardless of how we look at it. And KHB fits that description.

KHB's journey has been a long strange trip. Perhaps you were thinking of The Odyssey?

I for one would take Henry-Brooks back in a heartbeat.

1 more time...

Oedipus was told his destiny by the Oracle so he left to avoid it. He found that from which he ran away.

KHB ran from a program because he didn't like his coach getting fired. He found it.

This is the most Vanderbilt thread.

Start off talking about a player who transferred, end with a discussion of Oedipus and Sisyphus.
